The husband and father works at a shingle mill near by and last Monday so says the Troy Gazette, while he was at his daily labor,the mother to please her children was engaged in boiling pine tur pentine, or pitch, to make some chewing gum. The dish in which the pitch was boil ing caught fire and she somewhat frightened, ran with it to the door to throw it out. When a few feet from the threshold, the bot tom of the dish, affected by the heat, fell out, scattering tne burning liquid over Mrs. GROOM'S dress setting her clothes in flames instantly. With great presence of mind she ran to a barrel of rain water, and jumped into that, her little daughter pouring a pail of water on her blazing dress. Mrs. GROOM then baled water with her hands, and put out the fire on the floor. Her hands and other portions of her person are terribly burned.
