The byildings upon the farm of Isaac.
Morley, who lives just below this place on
tiie west side, were destroyed by lire yester
day afternoon. The fire was communicated
to the dry grass by a passing engine, and in a
few minutes spread to the buildings, which
consisted of a tine house, a barn and wagon
barn. The furniture was taken out of the
house, which was unoccupied at the time, but
seventy bushels of wheat and five tones of
bay were burned. Thus in an hour the home
of a veteran of over ninety-two years is laid
waste, but lie has lived around with his child
ren for some time, only keeping the old
f omostend furnished ready for use.

Ilero is a receipt for home-made cream
candy: One coffee cup of white sugar, one
or two tablcspoonfuls of water, enough to
make it dissolve nicely a> it heats. Boil with
out stirring, in a bright tin pan, until it will
crisp in water like molasses candy. Just
before it is done put in a tablcspoonful of
extract of vanilla and a quarter of a table
spoonful of cream of tartar. When sufficient
ly done pour into a buttered pan and when
cool enough to handle work it as you would
molasses candy, until it is perfectly white;
and then stretch, and lay on a marble slab, or
if you have to use the moulding board, put
buttered papers over it, and. with a chopping
knife, cut it into moulhfuls and set away
until it creams, which it will do as it dries
out. If it grains before it is done or beforo
you have a chance to pull it, put it back into
the pan and pour water on it, and boil it over
again.
