Loyal Sock Coal has become so popular in the market that foreign demand curtails the supply at home. A, MUSICAL BOX. She's perfect to whirl with in a waltz; And her shoulders show well on a soft divan, As she lounges at night and spreads her silks, And plays with her bracelets and flirts her fan. Her duty this christian never omits! 81ie makes her calls and she leaves her cards, And enchants a circle of half-fledged wits And slim attaches and six-foot guards, ts this the thing for a mother or wife! Could love ever grow on such barren rocks! is this a companion to take for a wife! One might as well marry a musical box. You exhaust in a day her full extent; Tis the same little tinkle of tunes always; You must wind her up with a compliment, # To be bored with the only airs she plays. W. W. Story. The April St. Nicholas, which has .just come to hand, will be received with pleasure by its many juvenile readers. In illustrations and reading matter it is an excellent number, and the little folks will find something on every page to interest, amuse and entertain them. No matter- how elegent or how perfect the rest of the costume, if the ueck is not properly and tastefully dressed the geueral effect is sprflled, and often in such a manner as to make the wearer look even dowdy. The large collars are the most simple means of effecting this object for those who are so fortunate as to be slender enough to wear them—for stout people cannot, or should not. The most artistic of these col lars are embroidered upon German linen and edged with linen lace three inches in depth. These are for morning wear at home or when staying at a country house. The form is simple, round and deep, with straight sides, and a narrow upright band at the throat, which is embroidered also and edged with narrow lace. The handkerchiefs with deep double lace ruffies and jabot finish in front are used as much as ever Ladies find them n great convenience in dressing up plain silk and satin dresses. The fashionable lace used • n trimming them fine imitation Mach lin, the best imitation of real lace that has ever been made, except the new invention, which is said to perfectly reproduce the bob bin hand-nuule lace, the product of which lias lot, yet appeared in the market. Linen cuffs (inside) hare disappeared, and there are out side cuffs, but there is little demand for them. The narrow standing collars still used for walking dresses are straight or slightly round ed bauds attached to a yoke, the upright cor ners held together with a gold stud or button. High d resscs are cut a trifle lower now than formerly and the band at tlie throat is often omitted. This is particularly the case with indoor dresses, which are then finished with a fall of white lace put on full and turned over, one end forming a jabot in front.
