A correspondent of the Cincinnati In quirer says a Monongahela belle has been selected by Forepaugh's agent from some twelve or fifteen hundred applicants for the 610,000 prize offered for the prettiest woman in America to travel with his show the coming season. The young la_ dy's name is Scott and she is thus discrib ed by the writer: Miss Scptt posesses a form tall and shapely. It is not the airy, fleecy, filmy, etheral nothing that Olive Logan ascribes to Sara Bernhardt, but a realistic, tan gible form. Her shoulders are rounded; her bosom is full and undulating, and her waist symmetrical, filling her bodice nice ty and seeming superlatively huggable. Were Hiram Powers again selecting his model for that American master-piece of art, "The Greek Slave," he could travel over much territoiy and find no better form than Miss Scott's. In carriage she is at once easy and graceful, Her face in some respects reminds one of the late Adelaide Neilson; it is fair as the lilies, and the checks are tinged with a delicate pearly pink. Her features are striking, regular and classical and of the Grecian type, save, perhaps, the nose, which curves slightly from the aquiline, and verges upon what is generally termed the American feminine nose. Her lips are full and expressive of a bright Vermil lion tinge, and when severed by a smile reveal a double row of tcetli that are typ ical in their regularity and dazzling white ness. Her eyes are large and full, of a dark brown color. With varying emo tions they change their hue as often as summer clouds, too, if for no other rea son than they are so soft and shadowy. Her eyebrows are most delicately curved and her long sweeping eyelashes add in tensely and at times a half melancholy languor to the orbs over which they keep sentinel. Her hair, which is long, wavy and abundant, is of a glossy black and possessos that silky texture which is such a pleasant contrast to the usual dcadebony we so often meet. Your correspondent would like to stop right here, but it won't do. Miss Scott is the niece of .Tolm Ryan, a coal-miner, and they abide in rather a dilapidated house. When the scribe asked her if she would travel with the circus as a queen, she carelessly shuflledv a well-worn deck of Ilars's best playing cards—squeezers— and, throwing out a bob-tail flush on the greasy table, said: "Well, I reckon not; that old duok Forepaugh couldn't get me to travel with his show for no money. Will you take a hand at 61 limit?" Your corresponednt drew out. Kansas papers take a most enthusiastic view of tee prospective harvest of 1881. The acreage of grain sown last fall was considerably in excess of that of any pre vious year, a>d the weather throughout the winter has been such as favor rapid growth and abundant yield. The sheep interest, is in a prosperous condition. Kansas claims to have more sheep in pro portion to the population, than any State i n the Union, or any country in the world. The cattle interest is advancing at a rapid rate; and assuming proportions that are hardly short of the marvellous. South ern and Southwestern Kansas have the major share of this industry, though huge herds can now and then be found in every county. Preperations are being made to contest the Utah case in a vigorous manner. It is stated that President Garfield has as sured Governor Murry that he should have the support of the administration in ♦he matter. It is claimed that Campbell's friends have the most convincing proof to establish the fact that the papers upon which Cannon made his claim to citizen ship are forgeries. Business Cards.
