Without a dissenting voice the press praise that artistic company headed by Miss HELEN POTTER, and pronounce their entertainment tlie finest before the public. S. WOODFORD having bought out the in terest of his partner in the boot and shoe business, assures the public that he will con tinue in the trade, and as heretofore keep the best assortment of men's, women's and chil dren's boots and shoes, and sell at the Invest p rices. We received quite a severe shock the other dav which we note as a caution to newspaper men. lie v. J. BARTON FRENCH than whom is no bigger nor better man iq town, is the popular Commander of the (J. A. 11., and after paying our little bill for printing for the Post deliberately turned and thanked us for the notices given. It has been so long since an event of that kind has happened that we were taken quite aback. It is some ten years or more ago since a rather verdant gentleman so far broke over the usual rules that govern the treatment of proprietors of newspapers by the outside public as to thank us for favors given. He has probably learned better now and we cannot remember that the offence has ever been repeated. Politicians, farmers, mer chants, business men, teachers and churches' military, civil and religious organizations all come to a newspaper and get free notices of various kinds, but hcver think of making the slightest acknowledgement. One church in this town has had over five hundred free no tices given it by the Gazette , but a few months ago by mistake a notice was erroneously giv en, when we were soundiy berated for care lessness, but no hint given that we had ever 'deserved better. The idea that a newspaper deserves any consideration from those who have axes to grind is certainly a new one to the public.— Troy Gazette. MOKK WYALUSING BUSINESS HOUSES.— The Elmira Advertiser correspondent con tinues his reports from our thriving neighbor ing village Wvalusing. In Saturday's issue we find the following: WYALUSING HOTEL. it is scarcely necessary for me to name the proprietor of this excellent and well-kept house, for the happy and jolly " Morg." and his good wife are known far and near. Few men ever opened their doors to the public who were able bv nature to make such a landlord as J. M. Brown. Full-sou led, open hearted and generous almost to a fault, he is one of that kind that make a sue, cess of any thing they undertake. The hotel that hears his name is no exception. Filth and muss are to them unknown. Scrupulous neatness reigns supreme. The house is roomy, well appointed, well furnished and well kept. No one wonders that business men hurrv tnrough their work in other towns that thev may come and "lodge" at Brown's. And then should a man be weary from hard toil through the day, one of those stories that this jolly landlord is noted for telling wouid be inter spersed, convulsing all with merriment. There is a satisfaction in doing what is under taken well, and if friend Brown is as well pleased with himself as Wyalusing is with her landlord, he is a happy man. On the same side of the street, a few rods below, we notice the dry goods firm of LEWIS A nuowx. This is 0110 of the oldest and best established houses in the county. For many years a very successful business has been carried on at this stand. Augustus Lewis, Esq., one of the most worthy and respected citizens of this place, and father of the junior member of the present firm, conducted a prosperous business iiere for many years, but having heavy lumber interests to look after, he gave way to the present firm. The members are Clinton Lewis and J. Miles Brown. Mr. Lewis had a former mercantile experience with his father and is a young man of excellent moral and business standing in the community. Mr. Brown came here from Maryland, and brought with him not only an abundance of funds ii] - on which to do business but al?o u most savory reputation, being a man of reputation and refinement as well. They mqke an enter prising. active film and will not be undersold in any department of their trade. In order to meet the demand upon them hv their many customers thev are obliged to carry a heavy supply of the best goods in the market. Buy ers who visit at Lewis A Brown's expecting to be used genteelly and find the very best goods in their line at the very lowest prices, will not come away disappointed.
