For tlie first time in many a day we,yester
day missed the genial countenance of our
good friend WILLIAM SCOTT in our sanctua
ry. He did not forget ihe REVIEW however.
On inquiry we learned he was detained at
home by an attack of rheumatism. We hope
lie may soon 1 e out again.
SENECA ARNOLD, the vigilent bridge watch
man, has given another evidence of the wis
dom of his selection for the position, as well
as h:s practical interest in the traveling pub
lie, by placing a powerful light at the Towau
da entrance to tlie bridge, so arranged tbat it
throws its beams to the eastern extremity.
The improvement will he appreciated by dri
vers who are compelled to cross the bridge at
night and will be the means of pr. venting
many collisions and accidents.
We are indebted to our friend FRANK GRA

now given way to the narrow rimmed hat,
short hair, lower shirt collar, small coat with
narrow sholders, short vests, close, fitting
pantaloons and the small narrow shoes.

ORANGE BLOSSOMS.—There have been
many brilliant and fashionable weddings in
this vicinity during the past season, Out like
the wine at the marriage in Cana, the most
enjoyable and pleasant of all of them was the
last one. We refer, of course, to the mar
riage of Miss EMILY JOSEPHINE, daughter
of L. J. CULVER, Esq., and PHILIP C. GORI,
of New York city. The ceremony was per
formed by Rev. C. F. KKLLKY, of this place,
in * beautifully impressive manner, while the
modest yet dignified demeanor of the twain
who were being made one, as they took upon
themselves the solemn obligations, elicited
the profound admiration of the guests assem
bled to witness the nuptials. The passages
from Iloly Writ as well as the admirable ex
tempore remarks by the olliciating Priest add
ed interest to the occasion, and we have no
doubt deepened conviction in the sanctity of
the marital relation. The bride who is both
beautiful and accomplished, was becomingly
attired in a dress of pale blue silk, and could
not have looked more charming. The groom
is a fine looking young gentleman who gave
unmistakable evidence of culture and superi
or intellect, lie was educated in Paris and
Germany and speaks several cjifferent lan
guages liuentiy. The guests were mostly rei
atievs and near neighbors. Among
present were the following: Mrs. ABEAM
PATIKKSON, Mrs. DEWING, Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. PIOLLKT, Col. PIOLLET, Mr. and Mrs* P.
POWELL, Mr. and Mr*. JAS. WOOD and
daughter MARY,Mr. and Mrs LKWISKILMER,
Mr. and Mrs. \VM. PAT PERSON, and Mrs H.
IIORTON, Mr. atul'Mrs. W. M. SHORES, Mr.
and Mrs. OSBORNE, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. NEW
ELL and daughter, Mrs. 1). MKEIIAN, Miss
(EORGIE MOWRY, Miss LKNOKA OWEN, Miss
CARRIE MORGAN, Dr. EKED, 11. 11. LANING,
E. G. OWEN, LOUIS, JONN and VICTOR PI
OLLKT.
The refreshments, like the other appoint
ments, could not have been excelled.
The bride received some handsome and val
uable presents.
The bridal party took train 15 for New
York, where they will reside for the present.
We wsihthem abundant happiness and a long
and prosperous wedded life.

With the present movement of money
lo New York there are indications of Ja
greater stringency in Boston. Banks are
accomodating tlieir customers at 5 and G
per cent for time loans while call loans
are stiff at eight.
The New York police are making efforts
to suppress pool playing by boys. Seven
teen liquor dealers, and thirty pool play
ers arrested yesterday, were arraigned.
The former were held for trial and the
latter fined.
Six thousand three hundred and forty
eight persons died in New York since
New Year's day. This mortality is un
precedented. Were it continual in pro
portion the deaths for the year would be
38,000 against 31,000 last year. The in
crease is attributed to the severe season.
The mortality thoughout the country is
represented as unusally large.
