Mr. G, sr,, goes as manager for that great nation al work, Appleton's American Cyclopedia, and it is quite proper in this connection to re mark that no American citizen should be without this educator of families and the na tion. We congratulate the publishers on their good fortune in securing a manager so well qualified for the position. Mr. G. is a man of fine literary attainmeu's, business capacity of high order and perfect reliability. The second lecture of the Institute course was delivered last evening by Rev. JOHN S. BEERS, Rector of Christ Church. The sub ject, " Reniiuesceuses of Lyceums, Lectures and Lecturers," was very cleverly handled, and the audience, which nearly tilled the or atory, were both interested and edified. A vast amount of valuable instruction was giv en with just enough of humor to make it pal atable and fas en it in the minds of those who heard it. The next lecture will be delivered by J. W. INGHAM. Esq., better known per haps as " Castelar," one of the most interest ing and forcible writers in all this section. — We can assure the students and the public that his address will be worth hearing, and the hall should be crowded. The following suggestions are worthy the reflection of all who are in the habit of de crying the industries and the enterprises of the town wherein they reside. Talk up your town. Yes, talk it up and work for it. Don't grumble if anything and everything is not your ideas, especially if you do nothing to make the place better. Don't tell strangers that it is the worst place you know, that it is worse than any other town of its size. En courage every useful and creditable enterprise in vour midst, for as sure as effect follows cause, so sure will enterprise or merit repay every citizen. We cannot live unto ourselves and we cannot discourage a movement in behalf of a place, without inflicting upon our selves a personal injury. The jury investigating the recent fall of the Buffalo Central depot, find, after eight days deliberation, that the fall of the roof was caused by the breaking of the cords holding the trusses, but the cause of this breaking is unknown. Hon. John !. Mitchell Nominated for U. S. Senator. The committees of the two factions ol the republican party lasj night unani mously recommended Hon. JOHN I. MITCHELL, of Tioga county for U. S.
