Lord Derby announces, in alette, that he will hereafter rank himself among the Liberals. Dispatches trom Italy say that the Gar baldians are preparing a manifesto which will demand increased liberty. The last betting in the race for the Lin colnshire handicap was 12 to 1 against Wallenstine and 15 to 1 against Parole. Denis Kearney has been sentenced to pay SI,OOO line and undergo an imprison ment of six months. Mr. Wolf, one of the committee ap pointed to prosecute the riot bribery cases says he is opposed to either pardon or commutation of sentence. The Itev. Doctor John Hall's congrega tion, in New York, have increased his salary 50 per cent., making it §15,000 in spite of his earnest protest. • It is stated that the intluencc of Dennis Kearney in San Francisco is diminishing. The only wonder is that the blatherskite ever had any. Mr. Buckner introduced a bill yester day lor the final adjournmenl of Congress on the 21th of May. Mr. O. Turner presented to the House yeeterday resolutions of the Ken tucky Legislature asking for the reduc tions of the President's salary to §25, 000. The heaviest rains have fallen for the past four days ever known in Georgia for years. All the streams are very high, and overflows which will damage the crops are reported. Dixon's Colliery, at High Blantyre, near Glasgow, is on fire from a gas explosion. A thousand men arc thrown out of em ployment by the disaster. One death has resulted from the explosion. Navigation has been opercd at Erie. Yesterday the propeller Cormorant arriv ed having in tow the schooner Pelican with a hundred thousand bushols of coin. The port opens six weeks earlier than in 1879. The House Coinmitte on postolTlces has agreed to report favorably the bill author izing the Postmaster General to introduce postal cards with a flexible flap to con ceal messages written upon them. A Washington special says that Mr. Carlisle has introduced a bill in the House to pay ten thousand dollars in salary and mileage to DeYoung, elected Member of the 40th Congress from Kentucky, but disqualified for disloyalty The superintendent of the mounted re cruiting service has been ordered to cause all available colored cavalry recruits to be ptepared and fo~warded to Santa Fe, N. M., for assignment to the Ninth Cat airy. The Secretary of the Navy has instruct ed the commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard to receive all provisions offered for the sufferers in Ireland, the same to be placed on board the Constella tion, now at that yard. The puddlers and helpers in the mill of Bailey & Co., and McCorrnick and J. Wy ster, at Harrisburg. Pa., struck for higher wages yesterday. Both sides appear equally determined to hold out. From six hundred to one thousand men are thrown out of employment. It is feared that the strike will ultimately lead to a gencaal cessation of work from Pittsburg to Philadelphia.
