The Lehigh Yalley coal and freight business has been heavy of late, and the trains long. It is generally admitted that leap years are good seasons for fruit, especially pairs. The old cooper shop, where JONES killed himself, has been torn down. Indications for business men—The business moon is just right for planting advertise ments. "Where shall I move to?" Is the question which just now agitates the average non householder. The owner of the shawl advertised in the ! REVIEW yesterday, called this morning and got the article. REVIEW.—Please say in your paper, some day between this and Monday next, that , the Singing School will be continued on Tues day evening next, at 7 o'clock P. M., March 4 2d, and oblige, S. F. ACKLKY. Many men are driven into flagrant sins by ; the unchristian treatment of those who pro fess to follow a merciful, forgiving Saviour, when, under great temptation, deviation has j been made from the line of striet rectitude, j no matter how sincerely the fault is repented of. With those who have never yielded to ! temptation, "No room for repentance" is ac corded the erring. Such was not the teaching ' of our great Exemplar. He could say to the penetaut "Co and sin no more." Superintendent's Notes. February 22 and 24.—Visited schools as fol lows: Burlington , Beits, B. K. When words and acts untrue, unkind Against thy life like arrows fly, Reeeive them with a patient mind, Seek no revenge, make no reply. Oh, holy science! Tis thy shield, More strong than warrior's twisted mail; A hidden strength, a might concealed, Which worldly shafts in vain assail. lie who is silent in his cause, Has left that cause to heavenly arms, And Heaven's eternal aid and laws Are swift to ward the threatening harms. God is our great protecting power! Be still! The Great Defender moves; He watches well the dangerous hour, Nor fails to save the child lie loves. A new puzzle, called "The Game of 15," is attracting considerable attention just now. A writer in the Rochester Democrat does not think much of it, and thus analyses the inven tion : "Whoever inventi <1 'the game of 15' either understood it or did not. If In 1 understood it, in sending it into market he knowingly per petrated a fraud upon the public. If he did not understand it he lias unwittinglyperetrat ed upon the public one of the hughest jokes of the Benson. He calls it 'The (Jem Puzzle' and gives us directions: 'Place the blocks in tin* box ir regularly, then move until in the regular or der,' i. e., move until they are regularly ar ranged consecutively from 1 to 15, and gives a diagram of the numbers on the box as they will he when so arranged. Multitudes have looked and studied, and worked to accomplish this task under the delusion drawn from the statements upon the box, that under all eir eustances its accomplishment is possible. Thus hours have been wasted and headaches superinduced, only to result in failure and mortification at not being able to accomplish what only a few moments before the merest child had easily done. The fact is t he 'puzzle' amounts to nothing. It does not rise to the dignity of a 'game.' If, in placing the blocks in the box they happen to fall into the right position*, 'hey can be moved into numerical order; but if they do not, it is impossible to move them into that order. To illustrate, they maybe so placed that in coming to the last three numbers 13, 14 and 15, they may be left in six different forms: First—ltegulorly 13 14 15 Second-Irregularly 14 15 13 Third —Irregularly*. 15 13 14 Fourth —Inversely 15 14 13 Fifth—lrregularly 13 15 14 Sixth—lrregularly 14 13 15 If it so happens that they come out in either of the hist three forms, 4, 5. or (!, it is impos sible to move them into 'regular form,' and all time spent in the attempt is wasted. If it so happens that they come out in either the second or third form, the merest child can easily move them into 'regular form.' Again, all the numbers and squares except the last live, numbers 11,12, 13, 14, and 15, with the six places, three in in each of the last, rows in box. are entirely useless, except as they aid in concealing the fraud by making the task of discovering that the 'puzzle' can not be accom plished under the above conditions more diffi cult. I have assumed that the mover commences at number 1 and moves toward 15. The same result will be reached in the last numbers, commence where and work as you may."
