XtEirThe Message et_ Gov.klieks to,the
Maryland Legislature 'was delivered Dec.
4th. He says he hasf called together that
bodyin order that tizey may: take the
necessary steps to vindicate the honor
and loyalty of the State. He urges meas
ures for-the payment of their portion of
the expenses of the war, and fur raising
and equipping Maryland's quota of men:-
He also calls for provision fur the sum
tnary punishment of those in the State;
Who aid' and abet treason. -
- Opdyke, Republican, has
been:. elected Mayor of New York City
over the corrupt Fernando NVoikl,"who a
few months ago advised New- York - city
to secede from the State, and proclaim
itself a Free City open to the commerce,
of the whole world. This triumph of the
Republicans is a most significant endorse
ment of the Administration and is "partie
ularly gratifying at this tiara when such
a large amount of money is necessary
for the maintenance of the gov, ernment.
