L. &Lab, aged 49 years. - The sudden and •unexpected decease of Mrs. Bird gives- emphasis to the sol emn truth. that "there is but a step, be tween us and, death." Though for inure than a - year past she had been in feeble health, yet, nut till three or four days previous to her death, did her symptoms assume an alarming character. Her late severe bereavenient—the loss of a much loved daughter, in Troy, Pa.—she bore with christian fortitude -and ms ekness, but her feebL,. health was riot able to en; ante the shuck waich the sad and unex pected intelligence cf her daughter's death urea-wood. This, doubtless, rith other causes 'hastened her to her grave. The loss, of Mrs. Bird will be deeply_ felt nut only by her family and relatives, but also by the church to w:.ich she belono , ed.-and by the community in which she - ller tare good sense, and superi or natural endowments improved and cul tivaied by übsetvati n and experience, eminently fitted her fit the place she bsr,..i called to fill, both in the family, in stick ty and in the church. She was a highly oiemb.o. of society, and her advice c.moset went much sought after.— As a CitrlSiiila. She hunorcd her calling; her pity ever Nhined for th , with a ;wady and increas . iiiii Jostle in all her life and emiversation. lu the chiirch, by her . 4sssl!y- life and consistent eisrustiatt exam ple, and ever wise tad prudent ,counsels, slie excited COUM.anding influence r the prosperity and advancement of t:.e cause of -her Lord and 3laster. But it was in the family more especially—in the mother, the guardian and director of her Iniuselm;d, that the graces of her cliarac ter appeared the most conspicuous, aud it is here too, -in a special• sense, that "her works de follow. her." By her ex ample and religious instruction, she i n. pressed. her own ideal of noble and. virtu ous character upon the winds of her children. To train them up fur useful ness, for happiness and heaven, was the de ire and ambition of her . heart, and liefived-to see her efforts rewarded iu the conversion of five of her oiler chill dren to the Saviour. May'her example encourage, the heart- of every christian mother to greater dilligence and to more fervent prayer for the spiritual-good of her family, -forasmuch as ye know that your labor is nut in vain in the Lord." .Witn the deeply afflicted and bereaved husband and children, we, as a community, or as a church, can Sympathize. L. their less of a companion and a ninth-% we have lost a Valued neighbm- and friend, and a beloved si: ter in ehrist. Let us ever cherish her memory, for "the. memory of the just is blessed."
