When backward through departed years, On memory's wing we stray, How oft we find but founts of tears Along the wasted way I The heart will vainly seek the light That rested there before, And sadly turn to mourn the blight Of all it loved of yore! We gaze on old familiar things, And Marvel that they bear No gladness to our 'pities wings, Like what of old was there !'
