HULL'S RECENTLY IMPRO VED TRUSS.--The distinguished surgeons and medicul faculty of the cities gener ally, and elsewhere, have come to the conclu sion that this Truss, in its present improved state, is the only instrument surgically adapted to the disease of Rupture, and the only one that patients can rely upon for the safe retention of he bowels and the final cure of the disease In confirmation of which the following names of distinguished medical gentlemen of New York city, with many others, hare expressed a decided preference for this instrument, are res pectfully, added:' Valentine Mott, MD. Also, the following extract of elate certificate of Dr. Mott, of New York: "For the last twelve months, the curative powers of Dr. Hull's Truss have been tested under my own observation with the most grati fying success in . cares of great difficulty, in which the mutilated imitation Trusses so com mon in our market, had only aggravated the disease. Dr. Hull is an experienced surgeon, who has displayed not a little surgical skill and mechanical ingenuity in bringing this unrivalled instrument to its present state olperfection, ren dering it, I know, the best I ever saw for secur ing, comforting and curing the ruptured patient and is in my opinion, the only instrument of the kind that is entitled to patronage of the profes• sion, and the confidence of the people. Dr. Bolus. • Some twenty years'since, a certain Lec tor of physic resided in one of the interior towns in New Hampshire. The doctor was a very shrewd penetrating man, with a deep and almost unerring insight into the human breast—a. consummate,. knowledge 'of his profession, united with great skill—arid with al, possessing the happy faculty of directing contingencies sons to result in his own intdii. vidual advantage. Now all this, howeVer paradoxical it may seem, was partially con.. cealed under the guise of buflbonery and By delicate fact and in peculiar combinatiOn ofcircinnstances,he had contrived ionionoii lize, (I believe this is the word,) 'the .whole course of practice within a district of sever al miles, sustaining the reputation'of one of the first physicians in the country, (which, in deed he was,) and throwing a number of quacks around him completely into the shaile. As a matter of course, these becarine lanai cal towards him, which finally broke out into open hostilities. Things were thus'aituated, when one day, this worthy niounted' his Rosinate, and set forth on a "visit" to a pi/4 tient, and after riding a short distance he met a practitioner, Dr. Slop, from a neigh. borinif" village. ' "Good mornin', Dr. Physic." "Ahl good mornin' good mornin i . Dr. "D'ye hear any thing new, Doctor?" ' - "Why nothing 'special." A silence ensued. "Well Dr. Physic, that was a tremendous case that you cured the other day—John. son's you know. Could'ot spare SOl7lO of your skill as well as. not, could ye? People tell strange stories about ye—and where do ye think Doctor Burton says all your virtue , lies?" "Most probably in my saddle bags." "No sir, in your breeches." "In my breeches?" . ~. . , "Yes sir." . .. "Are you serious?" "I am." .. -I,‘ • Some explanation is here necessary.;..' Dr. Physic not being proud man, wore a pair of buckskin pantaloons he had used per. haps a dozen years. in compounding a pill, he would roll it upon them, to give it a glob: ular form and after plilebotomizing,he would wipe his lancet upon them: in short' using them for all manner of purposes, they thus became in time, completely saturated with all sorts of medicines, from simple "Epsom' salts" to the most complicated mixtures in "Pharmaccepia." Hence the idea that the Doctor's healing powers lay therein, was by no means so very shallow. Doctor Physic was astonished, and musing a moment °Weir. vcd: "Well sir I won't deny but Dr. Burton tells the truth--and if such be the case, I pledge my word that every particle of talent and power in the healing art, which I pos sess, shall be distributed among any number of individuals, physicians ofcourse, you may name. Please designate them." Dr. Slop recounted the names of six or seven individuals. "Well, please be at my house, the 15th day of the present mouth, and thejnatter' shall be settled.", "Agreed." * K * * At the time appointed they were there in all seven, besides the worthy Doctor Physics himself.
