    A Vote to be Rei
In the State Senate, on Thursday, the Appro
priation Bill being under consideration, Mr.
CAROTHERS moved to amend the 24th section, by
reinstating the appropriation of $lO,OOO to the
Western Pennsylvania Hospital, stricken out by
the Senate Committee, which was disagreed to by
a vote of years 10, nays 20.
Several other motions were made to insert re
duced appropriations for the same object, but they
were all disagreed to. Mr. Mvnits then moved
to amend by inserting the division as it stood in
the Honso bill, making an appropriation of $lO,-
000, oue-half to the Western PennsylVanie Hos
pital, and the remainder to the Sisters of Mercy,
of the county of Allegheny. On this motion the
years and nays were taken, and resulted as follows:
YEAS—Messrs. Daily, Bogus, Mliutrie, Myers
and Robertson-5.
NATS—Messrs. Brooke, Bttckalew y Cnrothers,
Carson, Crabbe, Cunningham, Fernon, Freiley,
Frick, Felton, Guernsey, Hoge, Ives, Jones, Kon
igmacher, M'Caslin, Malone, Muhlenbcrg, Packer,
Sanderson, Snvery, Shimer, Walker and Matthi
as Speaker-25.
So the motion was not agreed to, and never was
a more shameful propositicn negatived inn leg
islative body.
Mail Bobber Arrested
We learn that Col. Hottinger, the vigilant agent
of the Poet Office Department, has arrested Wm.
King, formerly deputy postmaster at Browning
town, Butler cr., for various mail depredations.
Ile was arrested at Venango, on the 31st ult., nail

meets in Pittsburg in May.
Correct ion
A paragraph is going the rounds of the papers, ',
to the effect that Gen. Wm. F. Packer introduced
the bill requiring the County Commissioners of
every county in the State to preserve a file of
each of the county papers not exceeding four and
have them bound for future reference. Such a
bill has been introduced ; but General Packer is
not entitled to the credit of it. It was read in
place by John B. Packer, Esq., the gentlemanly
nud efficient member of the House, from North
umberland county.
Such a law will entitle this Legislature to the
gratitude of the people in after years.

He's past the iron gate of death,
And sweetly yielded up his breath,
• Ile's now released front pain ,
Flis strugling moments are all o'er,
Anti he's arrived on Canaan's shore,
That blissful world above.
Then do not mourn for this sweet flower,
Cut down at such an early hour,
Ile's better off than you.
Prepare to meat him in the skies,
Where love and pleasure never dies.
And parting is all o'er.
Then you shall walk the golden street,

Something Superior, Convenient, Safe, and
I have purchased the right for the county of
Huntingdon, in the State of Pennsylvania, to use
a Patent Sash Lock or stopper, invented by
William E. Arnold of Rochester, Monroe coun
ty, New York, which is neat, safe, convenient,
cheap, and superior to any article of the kind
ever yet invented or used. With it sash can be
raised front below or let down from above or
both at once if required. It is constructed that
it cannot be put out of order, and when the win
dow is closed it is a perfect lock. A modal will
be exhibited to show how it works. A number
of the citizens of this place (Huntingdon) have
already the locks attached to their window sash.
It will also answer for cupboard and parlor
doors, and the windows of Railroad passenger
cars, stud many other places. The neatness,
durability, convenience, cheapness and safety,
makes it preferable to any thing of the kind ev
er yet invented for the use for which they are
intended. Any person wishing to have such
locks or stoppers put to their window sash, will
please address

any part be stricken of during the period of the
patent. (Patent secured Feb. 26th 1851.)
