THE STEAM SHIP PRESIDENT, Nothing has been heard of this ill fa ted ship. It is now nearly filty days, since she left the port of New York with 135 souls on board, and no tidings can be had of her fate. The flattering tale , of hope has kept the anxious minds of, thousands awake for weeks. Yet each new arrival leaves them still anxious, but with less hope. For some time it was thought that she had been disabled and was either drifting about uncontrollable, or that she had made some port and slop ped to repair—most likely at Bermuda. All hope has at length faded, and every one has settled down into the belief that she is lost; and of the many on board not one has escaped to tell the tale. What a sad and terrible event. Among the passengers was the Rev. Geo. Lookman, an eminent anu useiui ..F the Methodist Episcopal church. We ha*" tibteneu to his teaeli ings many times in St. George's chapel, Philadelphia; and we feel assured that he will pass to the world of spirits mourned by thousands of grateful hearts, who have been benefitted by his labors.
