ANOTHER GREAT FIRE IN MO BILE. Afteen Sparse Burned. trio have been favored with the follow ing letter, received by the mail this mor ning., by a gentleman of this city, from his son In Mobile. Truly the city of Mobile seems to be devoted to fire and pesti lence. MOBILE, Oct. 8, 1839. I have just time before the closing of the mail, to give you the nio4t melancho ly tidings of a terrible and sweeping ca lamity that last night befel this devoted city. A fire broke out near the heart of the city about 8 o'clock, and swept on di rectly through the centre, destroying in its progiesa some fifteen or twenty squares. For two months have this peo ple been afflicted with a pestilence as tremendous in its consequences, and as indiscriminate in its attacks, as an Egyp tian plague; and just at the moment when we hoped that the progress of the scourge was about to be stayed, another most awful visitation involving in misery and total ruin hundred:4 of fain il es, has in a few hours' time befallen the city. Truly has the wrath of an indignant Pro vidence fallen on this place with almost unprecedented violence. The papers will give you the particulars.
