AGRICULTURAL. Prcnilni Yflieat In Aslitafcuala County. At the annual meeting of the Conncaught Agricultural Society, held in January a first premium of two dollars was awarded to D. TV. Haz-kiDe,' ofConneaut, for the best wheat, j it-Ming 51 3-GO bushels of grain well clean ed and accurately measured, as per evidence of the file in the Secretary's office. The fol lowing is Mr Hazeltines statement: The question is often asked how I menage to Ect such crops. In reply to which 1 would tay manure well, and till well. My farm contains 55 acres, 14 acres in timber, leaving 41 acres of tilatle land, on which I am keep ing fourteen head of cattle, four horses, sev enteen sheep acd ten hogs. Have raisedthe prist season on this farm, three hunlred and forty bushels of wheat, f-ix hundred and forty bushels of corn, twohundrod bushels of sound potatoes, besides the rotten ones, and sum cient hay and other to winter my stock. The principle object is to p.:r.kc all the money for the pocket and manure for the land possible. For the last three years I have plowed under in June while ia fall bloom, from two and a half to three acres of clover, end I would here say that if the pccplo would otdy adopt a more liberal method cf farming and get their land in a proper state of cultivation, and then pat ia their crops and take care cf them there would soon bo less ikptisni is regard to the largo crops. I came to this farm in the spring of 1S57, and there was then in ground two and a half acres cf winter wheat, from which I harvested tnd threshed seven bushels of wheat cil told, uiee lump white wheat ia the fall. I sow ed the seven bushels on four acres, from which I harvested the following season one hundred and two bushels of tlco wheat. The- nest piece Eowed was the two and a half acres which I founa sowed with wheat when I took possession of the farm, which I harvested in 1859, one hundred ar l Cvo bushels of ex cellent wheat, and the past season the above statement from the Secretary shows what 1 produced on ono acre, and would here say that the wheat crop of 1S50 wa3 injured by frost ia June the heals did not fill out at the tips the object of this is to show that my land goes on steadily increasing ia yield as its quality and tillage is improved. Manner of cultivating wheat. Clover plow ed in the la?t of June when in full bloom worked twice with a cu'tivator in August sowed the 59th of August, Lroad cast two bushels to tho acre work it with a cultivate rolled with a heavy roller the sixth of April. Another fat of some importance may also be mentioned; The copperas used in soaking will prevent the birds, Fiiuirrels. worms, &c , from t sting the Feed. Dr. Chamberlain assures us that one pound of copperas in water, will soak enough feed for twenty acres. The cost will not be over twenty cents Every farmer could afford to make the experiment, even if ho should fail to derive any benefit from it. Al Y Trib-iiue. Head, ItingWi rm.
