A Cliapler on Fenelngr. A correspondent of the Xoftksxxitrv. Far mer ijives his views opon this topic as fol- I am aware that mauy feuco without any regard whatever to the future. Leaving out of the accouut thoso who put us shackling, crumbling concerns at first, there are many who believe they are putting up substantial fences which from points of neglect or ignorance, fail to tho ground in a few years after. ' Really, a post thould never be put into the ground in a green state. I need not state the reasons. The end that is put into the ground ehould cot have any bark on. Why need I tate the reason? If not cyauized. every post should be charred or burned, at least one fourth of an inch deep; i e so that the char red part shall be at least one foot above the surface, and one foot below the surface of the ground. The New York Farmers used to do that, and the posts lasted for life-titue. The reason is obvious While the post is sharing Urge quantities of water evaporate, leaving the post dry and the pores closed; the char coal has the power of absorbing large quanti ties of air gases, rendering it it. a measure impervious to water. Finally, charcoal has the power of "resisting putrefaction or de .miirn " tWr.hv nreservios the wood ration: have you ever found j iai.vU. j ing in the woods, perfectly dry i within, lllustrat charred loss lying in the woods, pcr.ectly ilry i ani sound inside, while logs lying beside j .i mi n them, ana more recently fallen, were partly or wholly decayed: prima facie evidence Ol i the truth of my statemeut Well, 'then, having fixed the posts accor ding to directions they must have one strait Lewtn side if they are not sawed posts put then in, if possible, two and a half feet deep I and press the earth around them hard and j solid. The wind cannot thee sway the fence j to and fro. Set the posts oa an air line, so that the boards may be put ou without warp- J ing them. If the ground be level, break joint . with every other boatd. Thi3 makes the j fence still more strong, as will be seen If . - rail are to b put on with nails, see that they . fit well against the posts, or they will prv ! themselves off. Let every bit of the bark be taken off, so that the wood may bardeu and cio.se its pores. Even poplar rails may be made to last as long by treating them iu this way. As to rails I would advise a different method. Let the posts be morticed, and the rails inserted in the mortices. Such a rail feuce I btliove meets with gen eral acceptance, and yet I have a caution con cerning them which very few think ol. The rails are put in the mortice wedge shaped. Don't put them in too tight, lest when they get wet and consefpuectly swell they may kplit the posts. I have seen, this done. Let me Bay in conclusion, that, although it requires more time to be particular, it is more profitable from begining to end. No tempo rary concern is ever comely or useful, while more time and capital are ultimately used and needed. Cranberry Culture. Large ideas are formed of the profit of the cranberry crop, and justly too. With an or dinary produce, cranberries pay better at 1 50 a bushel than any other crop that can be raised, and even at that comparatively low price, the farmer who has a bog field upon his farm, that he can devote the cranberries, has a certain means of in come, without much la bor to realize it The high prices that have ruled for cranberries of late years reaching sometimes as high as 15 a barrel having induced many to go into their cultivation, who may be disappointed at the suggestion of realizing but 150 a bushel for a crop. Yet they arc worth no more. This price will en able families to use thetu at G cts a quart; at this price, the demand for them will limited only by the supply, however great it may be. As it is now. at from 12 to 17 cents a quart, not one family ia a hundred ujcs cranberries, except on extraordinary occasions At the cheap price cranberry sauce would be as com mon as apple sauce. Two hundred bushels of cranberries ma' be obtained from an acre sometimes -as much more. It has frequent ly happened of late years that an acre of era u berries has produced & thousand dollars per iQDum. This is an absurd profit for the pub lie to pay. We have read lately in an Agri cultural journal that abol 150 acres have been, plated in Uurlingtoc couuty, N. J., with cranberries, this season; that a patch of tea acres, planted by a Mr Allen, has yield ed 150 bushels per acre, which .he delivers to purchasers at 4 per bushel; that the expf-nse of planting them was 25 per acre, and the cost of gathering from 50 to 60 cents a bush el a most unreasonable and preposterous item, for it Deedn't cost ten cents a bcshel. There 150 acres will yield in the third year 150 bushels per acre or 22.500 bu.-h-eb, which at 4 per bushel will come to 90 000, more than ten times the value of the land. At the price we have named 1,50 a bnfhel an acre would yield 225;"dcduct iig 50 for labor and interest, we have a pro fit of 175 left, CBoagh, one would think, to satisfy the most exigent greed for profits. We hear from every quarter that crac ber ry meadows have been laid down, and we are tlai of it. For there is promise of an abon daut sappTy of tLis refreshing and healthy fruit at fair prices, atd a promise, also, of luf&cicnt and largely remunerative profits to cultivators and producers of the cranberry. Sanctified by the highest Medical Authorities, both in Europe and the Unite! States, and prescribed in their practice. The experience of thousands daily proves that no preparation of Iron can be compared with it. Impurities of the blood, depression of vital en ergy, pale and otherwise sickly complexions in dicate its necessity in almost every conceivable case. Innoxious in all malladies in which it has been tried, it has proved absolutaly curative in each of the following complaints, viz: L Debility, Xertous Affections, Emaciation, Dysjxpsia. Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysentery, Incipient Consumption, Scrofulous Tuberculosis, Salt Rheum, Mis menstruation. Whites, Chlorosis, Licer Complaints, Chronic Headaches, Rheuma tism, InterniiUcni Fevers, Piinjdcs ou the Face, -c. In cases of General Debility, whether tho re sult of acute disease, or of the continued dimi nution of nervous and muscular erwgy from Chronic complaints one trial of this restorative has proved successful to an extent which no description nor written attestation would render credible. Invalids so long bed-ridden as to have become forgotton in their own neighboi hoods, have suddenly re-appeared in the busy world as if just returned from a protracted travel in a distant land. Some very signal instances of this kind are attested of female Sufferers, emaciated victims of apparent marasmus, sanguineous ex haustion, critical changes, and that complication of nervous and dyspeptic aversion to air and j exercise for which the physician has no name. In Nervous Aucctions ot all kinds, and for reasons wiuiuar ij ut-uiciii ujij, me uperairu r M- a- f- . At - of this preparation of Iron must necessarily be pjilntarv. for. unlike the old oxides, it is viror- ' ously tonic, without being exciting and over heating, and gently, regularly aperient, even in the most obstinate cases of costiveness without j , w w O ever being a gastric purgative or inSicting a dis agreeable sensation. It is this latter property, among.other which makes it so remarkably effectual and permanent a remedy for Piles, upon which it aLio appears to exert a distinct and speciSc actioB, by dis persing the local tendency which forms them. In DyspcpsLrinnumerable as are its causes, a single box t f these Chalybeate Pills has often sufficed for the mo habitual cases, including the attendant co.iticene.-is. In unchecked Diurrho.-.i. even when advanced to JKsentary, connrmcu emulating ana appa rently malignant, the effects have been equally decisive and astonishing. In the local pains, liss of flesh and strength, debiliatibg cough, and remittent hectic, which generally indicates Incipient Consumption, this remedy has allayed the alarm of friends and physicians, iu several very gratifying and in tereoting instances. In Scrofulous Tuberculsis, this medicated iron has had far more than the good effect of the most cautiously balanced preparations of idione, without any of their well known liabilities. The attention of females cannot le too confi dently invited to this remedy and resturaiice, in the caces peculiarly affecting them. In Rheumatism, both Chronic and ioflamatory in the latter, however, more decidedly it has been invariabjy well reported, both as alleviating pain and reducing the swellings and stifness of the joints and muscles. In Intermittent fevers it must necersarily be a great remedy and energetic restorative, and its progress in the new settlements of the Wrst will probably be one of high renown and use ulness. No remedy has ever been discovered in the whole hi3 tory of medicine, which exerts such prompt, happy and fully restorative effects. Good appetitee, complete dige&tion. rapid ac quisition of strength, with an unusual disposi tion for active and cheerful exercise, immcdiatc lyfollow its use.
