Horse Feeding-. The Xiondon Omnibus Company 'have Te rently made a report -on the feeding of horses which discloses come interesting facts. It oema that tke'Company use no loss than 6000 horses ; three thousand 'Of 'ihis number hare for their feed bruised oats and cut buy and -etraw, and the other three thousand get wWe 'oats and Lay The'loane according to the first system was -bruised oats, sixteen pouads; cut hay, -e even and a half pound? , -cut strac, two and a half .pounds. rbe a? lowance 'according to the second unbruised oats, nineteen .pounds-; uncut hay, thirteen pounds tine 'bruised oats, cut hay and out -etraw amounted to twenty-six pounds, and the unbruised oats, -fcc, to thirty-two pounds. The horse which had 'bruised oats with cut 'uay and straw, consumed twenty-six 'pounds iper day," and it appears it could do the work s .well andas'kept ia as good condition as fho horse which received thirty-two pounds jper day. Here was a saving of six pounds Ter day on the feeding of each horse receiving ruised oats, cut hay and straw. The ad vantage of braised oats and cut hay over unbruised oats and uncut hay is estimated at five cents a day on each horse, amounting to $300 per day for the Company's C.000 horses It is by no means ac unimportant result with which this experiment has sup plied us. To the farmer who ezpends a large ' um in the support of horse power, there are two points this experiment clearly estatTiIsb.es which in practice must be profitable ; first, the saving of food to the amount of six .pounds a day ; and secondly, no loss of hone power arrising from that saving. Uor to Raise Large Onions. Select your bulbs in the fall, put them 5n a bag and hang them up in a warm room. The bulbs will nearly dry up, but will grow when set out in the -sprcsg -and form 'iirge onions. To cere warts on the udder of cows, wash them after milking for a week or two with strong brine. The best mathod of keeping bugs from Aestroyiag vines, is to cover the ground wider ike vis.es witi etni two or three inches 4eep. Kicking -cows -can be cured of the habit, for the time being, and perhaps permanently by hanging a eoinroon draft-chain just for wards of the hips, before milking. To pot butter, and keep it sweet for a year take three ounces of loaf sugar, three ounces ealpctre, ten ounces of common sal. An once of this mixture to a pound of butts r, well worked in will give yoa good fresh batter daring the winter. Squash and pumpkin seeds, laying flat in tie fciils when planted, do better than those planted edgewise, throwing off the skin of the seed more readily, and without injuring the leaves Turnips anion; Corn. I think some of our correspondents Lave already touched this subject ; but no matter if they have the more that is said upon the sub ject the better. It's frequently the case that in passing through cornfields in autum, we find tho spaces between the row3 occupied with sturdy weeds ; sometimes this spurious veg itation overtops the maize, and "casts it into shade." Now, I would inquire, is it not much better and more prudent, iu every sense of the word, for the farmer to occupy the soil monopolised by the exhausting weeds with some crop that will contribute to his resources, than to have it filled with such a crop. Hy sowing the Purple Top Turnip at the last dressing of the corn crop aud 'scuff ing it in, or sowing just before a rain and allowing that to cover it, ho can have a hundred bushels of good turnips per acre, if the soil be rich and well cultivated, instead of a host of worthless and pestilent weeds. Germantown Telugraph Yellow Locust Trees. The timber of the Yellow Locust, unlike that of most ; rapid-growing trees, is very tough and durable. It has been known to remain sound, exposed to the weather in a fence, for tcirty years. An old Illiuois far mer, with whom they grew four feet per jcar writing to the Northwestern Christain Adco- rate, gives Lis method of plauting and cul ture, front which we condense tho following : "Locust seed requires artificial help in sprout ing This may be given by scalding. Fill a dish half full of seed, then pour on boiling water, and let it 6tand until partly cool ; then thicken it with fine corn meal, and let it stand in a moderately warm place until the seed is mostly swelled. Plant in. a nicely fitted seed bed about tho middle of May, and keep the bed well hoed. Transplant the following spring, Betting about eight feet apart aud cultivate in hoed crops, for about twd years, after which it may be stocked to any grass but red clover. Keep the forks trimmed off for tho few first years, and the work is done." Cultivation of Tea. A case of tea seed from Hong Kong, per Bhip Eagle, has just been received by -the Agricultural -Bureau of the United States Patent Office. Another let now on their way on board the ship Ro- tnance of the Seas will complete the s?pck. Applications from all quarters for these seed are received by every mail. Most of the applications come from the southern States. Th9 plant may be cultivated as far north as the southern portion of New York, and some propose a trial of tho seed in Mtssachusctts. la China, tea is grown in climates that makes ice of ten inches during the winter. Wath ington Star. Train lionet to Walk. The Michigan Farmer well observes: "A plow horse above all things should be a good walker. TLo walking gait is not cultivated enough in training horses.. Duly cousider what a team that could walk four miles an hour for ten hours per day could do towars hurrying for ward fDriDir work.' Z3T A correspondent of the Country Gen tleman', touching upon scare crowsi rccoin mends thestuGIn; of hawks, owls, and other birds cf prey, and suspending them in such attitudes as they are most dreaded in when alive, by the small birds, 10 similar positions, as in cherry trees, &c , &c. The skins of carniverous animals, as cats, could alio be stuffed and suspended in like manner. tdt There is no work gives better satis faction to the firmer that makes him feci so good all over as cleaning up his fields The more he does it the more he will want to.
