JonsS. Donahue, of Philadelphia county, takeij before the Committee of Investigation, May SO, 1850 . " My name is John S. Donahue. I live in the county of Philadelphia, and am a dele gate of the Williamsport Convention now Bit tin Mr. William Green told me he got one hundred dollars in the same operation that is. promising to vote for Ilubley. I said that as soon as I received the money I would take it over to the convention, and I did so. I re ceived eighty dollars from Mr. WILLIAM 1$. RANKIN, of Philadelphia county, at the Eagle Hotel, consisting of three twenty dol lar notes of the Uaxk of Miduletown-, and ono twenty dollar note of the Dank of Uarris burg. The tcrtimony of Mr. Green, as far as I have any connection with it, is true. Imme diately alter the time the money was given, Mr. Green said to me, " Now, Donahue, you vote before mo, and then you hold up the money and say that you got it for your vote' I said 1 would ; and I uevcr put it into my pocket, but banded it to therl'rcsidcut of the convention when I went in. Joux S. Donahue." Sworn and subscribed to before mo. May 31st. 1S50. E. Calyjskt, J. 1. The Committee appointed to investigate this matter, used the following language . "That they cannot Gnd terms sufficiently 6trong tocoudemu the dishonest and infamous ly corrupt course pursued by the individuals (llankin and Ovenshine) implicated in the transactions referred to." After the reading of the report it was adop ted, and the following resolution passed unan imously : 44 Eesolial, That we denounce as disrepu table the conduct of those men who attemp ted, by bribery, to assail the integrity of members of this Convention, and direct the President to return the money to the source from which it came." This was rather a damper upon W. 11 Raskin, and some time ehipscd before he a gain appeared before the public ; and when ''little jjker" does turn up, it is in the char acter of the President of a democratic club. Last fall he came all the way from Philadel phia to this place, to teach the Western De mocracy the lesson of their duty. An indis position to insult the cause for which he then contended, alone induced men here to listen to his silly boastings of his triumphs as an or ator over the opposition. Put in Pittsburgh the feeling against him was still stronger, aud theri he was not permitted to speak, at a niee tinz to which he had been invited. He went home, and on lat Wednesday sits in judg ment upon Hexry D. Poster Shades of the Prophet ! and is this & trial by one's Peers 't Now what think our reakers of Win. B. Rankin the servant of SimonCamekox in 1850 the menial doer of his master's Lid ding the go-between of rascals the sewer into which was poured the C!tb of the Layer and seller, infinitely below cither of them in honor or honesty? And yet this man Rank is has the effrontery to stand before the peo ple to denounce Henry D. r'osTE.'i, to call him 44 traitor," and class him among the "en emies of the democracy," and to state his waut that 44 tho stream of dcmccrr.cy be kept clear and pure." It is cot alum; in the language that the sting of this denunciation is. It is not enough that this should be done, but a vile blackguard, a miserable pimp for a baw dy house, a bemstly tool and panderer to Si mon Cameko's dishonesty, and a poor, piti ful ass, fhould Lc selected to administer the eastigaiion, and read the very flower of the Pennsylvania Legislature out of demo cratic party.
