exceed on the spot 60 men. At Chtrlibus;
ro. gig battle was 10'4, hot, and varied, and
the American troops . -were led by. Brigadier
General Shields., who took 380 prisoners, in
cluding officers, and completely overwhelm
ed the enemy. Gen. Scott says that in 'a sin
gle day the American troOps•defeated its va
rious battles abobt 32,000 men, made about
3600 prisoners, including eight generals, two
