The best way to kill them is to sprinkle the bushes with white hellebore. You can get it at any dru? store. A full table-spoonful to a gallon of water will be enough. If hot water is used you will get the strength out of it sooner, but cold water will answer if the powder isstirred in and it is then permitted to stand an hour or so. Apply with a sprinkling can wherever you find the worms and it will soon kill them without in juring the fruit. If you would saye the cur rant bushes you must kill the worms. If not killed they will eat the leaves off for successive seasons until the bushes are killed. —The Pittsburgh & Western R. Some time last summer, over eight months ago, while the writer of this happened in the Coun ty Clerk's office. W. 11. 11. Riddle, Esq., came in with a man we did not know, and address ing the Clerk said that 'here was a man who wanted to make affidavit to an application for pension,' or words to that effect. Mr. Dodds administered the oath to the man, and after wards, at Mr. Riddle's request, attested to his signature, as did also the writer of this. This alleged pension paper turned up last week as the Elliott affidavit regarding his application for license, and we write this merely as an ex planation to those of our friends who may not understand the matter. —The Bald Riilge oil district had its first oil fire and fatal accident last Friday night. The fire occurred at the Fisher Bros.' well No. 2, on the Wallace farm, and caused the death of Daniel McLaflerty, an employee of the Philips Bros. The night was a very calm one, and the gas escaping from the well settled close to the surrounding ground. At about ten o'clock that night McLafFerty had occasion to pass with a lighted lantern within one hundred feet of ttie well, when an explosion occurred which set tire to his clothes, and burned the hair from his face and head. lie ran for the creek, but was overtaken and the flames ex tinguished, but he had breathed the flames aud died in great agony next day. The llames following the explosion immediately ran to the well and set tire to the derrick, boiler house and tanks, which were soon cousumed, and when the well began flowing the flames lit up the surrounding country for miles around. Trenches were dug around the wells to prevent the tire spreading to the neighboring well, but the workmen were not able to extinguish it until next afternoon. Sportsmen.
