The importance of this article as' a sta ple is but jut begining to be realized a mong the farmers at the West. The re peated failures of the wheat crop in that flection of the country, and its low price during an abundant season, have been causes for great discouragement to the agricultural commumt, and the attention of the farmers of the Northwest having been fortunately directed to the breeding ' of sheep, the experiment has been found to work admirably, and there has, for the past three years, been a continually in creasing clip of wool sent forward to mar ket from the interior of Michigan, in the aggregate amounting to some millions of pound''. The prices so far have been . higher, more uniform, and better sustain ed than those of any other product of the farm, and it is becoming prettty cer- , tain that wool is to be the leading ajrri cultural product. A Michigan paper P states that there arc runners all over the '. countrj' buying up sheep-pelts at exorbi- j tant prices, in some instance offering $1 j - 111 .1 rv i I a piece, wnicu nas the cucct to induce farmers to hill off large numbers of their flocks.
