A copy of the report of the Judges of Mu sical Instruments at she late exhibition' of the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia: The Committee have awarded C. Meysr with a premium- for the best seven- octave Piano. The ground- of this decision was the general excellence of the piano, and especially its pow er, brilliancy, and delicacy of touch. The judges did not give premiums-for the best fin--rhed instruments, conceiving the best palpable rests of a piano to be its mnsical capabilities, and not its originality, its mechanical igenuity, or that elegance of finish, which effects neither the action nor the tone, and! is only designed to pleae the eye and not to satisfy the ear. Another copy of the report of the judges of musical instruments at the fast exhibition at Boston:--The committee have eelected'No. 591 a seven octave piano made by- C. Meyer, wor thy of special commendation. No. 591, is a very fine instrument, particu. larly commendable for its elastic and ready touch, in repeated Iri&ls by different hands.- The keys never failed of certain repetitions in the shake. The tone throughout was even of great beauty and power from the lowest note io highest, and the damping; was perfect in all caies. Great success amb'ni the Volunteers! Extract of a letter from the editor of the Greer, ville Mountaineer, S C ,Dr. W, Wright Dear Sir: A week or two ago 1 sent vdu a Mdhhtaineer. containing a letter from one of dur Volunteers in the City 'of Mexico, in which he pays Wright's Indian Vege table rills, under all the circumstances, the high est meed of praise I have ever known a medicine to receive. The volunteer, William Y . Goodlett, Esq., is a gentleman of line standingan Accom plished and well educated man, artd was recently HIGH SHKR1FF Of this District. By,one of your advertisements in a Charleston paper, I happened to notice the location of your office, and thought you might ex tract an article ot some value in regard to your medicine, therefore 1 sent the paper 1 he lollowing is an extract from the letter re ferred to above: d 'My health is very fast improving. I procured, a few days ago, some of Dr. Wright's Indian Veg etable Pills, and they have acted on my system LIKE MAGIC ! ' Thus it appears that the brave and patriotic Vol unteers who have gone to Mexico, to defend the rights and honor of their country, already begin to realize the extraordinary value of this incompard ble medicine. Long life to them ! HORRIBLE MISTAKES ! ! Are sometimes made by confounding one medi cine with another, and administering the wrong ar ticle. Equally horrible are those mistakes which are made in supposing that all Pills are alike, and that therefore, it is indifferent which are taken, and if one kind is bad all are bad together. This is a very great mistake. There is as much difference between Wright's Indian Veaetable Pills and oth er articles, as between midnight and noonday ! We do not wish any to take our word for this state ment. Let any one, having other medicines, try this. Nothing more will be necessary. Many persons have been led away by a coating of Sugar, as if they anticipated that it would re move the nausea of the' medicine. But they are generally mistaken. Without the sugar those ar ticle have nothing to recommend them, and would not be sold a single day. But with the the sugar, and by giving the articlejyiame similar io Wright's Indian Vegetable Puls,my gain a temporary no toriety. Wolves they aw, m sheep s clothing, to whom the public should steer sufficiently clear Let it be remembered that Wright s Indian v eg- etable P'iLLs are prepaaed with special reference to the laws governing the human body. C.onse- quentlo, they are always good, always useful, al ways effective in rooting out disease. Every fam ily should keep them at hand. February 24, 1848.---ly Dr.Le Roys VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS. The only knoum medicine that at the same lime -pur ges, purifies, and strengthens the system. DR. LE ROY'S, Pills are a new medicine which0 has just appeared, and is fast taking the places of all others-of the same class. These pills are composed of many ingredients, but the two principal ones are Safsaparilla and Wild Cher ry, so united that they act? together the onn; through its-admixture with othei substances, purifying and purging, while the othor is-strengthening the sys tem. Thus those pills aie at tho same time tonic and opening-: a desideratum' lone and easerlv sought for by medicinal men,-but never before dis covered. In other words they do the' work of the two medicines; and do it much better than any two we know of; for they remove nothing from the systenvbut the impurities; so that while they purge they strengthen ; and hence they cause no debili tation, and are- followed by no re-action. Dr. Le Roy s Pills have a wonderful lrfluence on the blood-; they not? only purrfy without weakening it. but they remove all noxious particles from the' chyle before it is converted into fluid, and thus makes impure blood an utter impossibility. As-there- is no debilitation, so there is no nausen or sickness attending the opperations of this most excellent of medicin.es which never strains or tortures the digestive" functions, but causes them to work-in a perfectly natural manner; and hence persons- taking them" do1 not become pale and emaciated-, but the' contrary ; for while it is the property of the Sarsaparilla, united as it is with other ingredients, to remove all that is foreign and impure, it is equally the property of the Wild Cher- to retain all that is natural and sound ; and hence a robost state of health is the certain result of their united operations. SIX YEARS AGO the chi'dren began to cry for Sherman's Lozenges. The noise was not so loud at that time, but it has kept increasing ever since, and now has become so great that the" mouths of the little ones can scarce be' stopped. Dr. Sherman sympathises Svith the little sufferers, and very much regrets that any of them should be disappointed. Dr. Sherman's Oongh Lozenges,- continue to cure Coughs, Colds, Consumption, Asthma, shortness and difficulty of Breathing, and othe? diseases of the Lungs, with the same, facility they did on their first introduction, and the people have' now become persuaded by actual experience, that on the' accession of a slight Cold, they have only to step to either the Dr's. office, or one of his Agenfs, and obtain a box of his Cough Lozenges, which are very convenient to carry in the pocket, and to-take a few through the day.
