- We the undersigned Auditors - in• and for. the county of Susquehanna, met; iu.purananceot
.our duties, at the Auditors' Office in.Montrose;'on Tuesday, the 2d day pt January, A. D., 1877,
and did audit and adjust and settle the several accounts of the Commissioners and Treasurer of
said county as follows, viz: We find, upon a thorough examination; in the hands of Henry C.
Tyler; Esq., county Treasurer, Ten Thousand. One Hundred and Thirty 7 Eight .Dollais and Fifty.
Seven pents'(slo,l3B.s7) county balance; and upon a thorough investigation of the Commission
ers!, accounts, we are satisfied that our present board of Commissioners are making every effort
in their power to reduce the expenditures of the 'county. We find that for distribUting the elec
tion papers, Assessors duplidates and papers,and the registry books and papers for theirear 1872
cost the county $646, white in the year 1876, for distributing the same, cost the coun*• $197.60 ;
and notwithstanding the above encouraging facts; we find . that many of the Assessors of the
county are charging exorbitant prices for making the assessments; and especially the borough of
,liontrose. We find also thatthe charges for county advertising are exorbitant for the times,
and Would suggest to our Cominissioners that they use every means in their power to. reduce the
same. Arid while we find the present board pf Commissioners have made a large reduction in
thesalary of their clerk we Would'recommend a still furtherreduction if practicable. '
