The treaty of peace with Spain has been ratified, but unfor tunately, the war broke out anew at Manila; last Saturday.. It was not the Spaniards who renewed the war. It was the native Philip' pine Islanders who renewed the fight. They have never surrender ed the Spanish troops so that they can be sent home to Spain, and they have never fully recognized the authority of the United States to posess the islands. They have kept a large army in the field, chisely eutrenched near Manila which is occupied by the American army. There are aliont 15.000 American troops at or near Ma nila; ten thousand of which are volunteer troops. The battle was started about S.45 last Saturday evening by three Philippine scouts trying to force their wav through the American picket line into the city of Manila. They attempted to get through the picket line of a Nebraska regiment. Th. n-n.jr.1 fired on the insurgents killinir one and wounding another, and that brought on the engagement. The rnuippines attacked our line, and were repulsed with heavv In. The American fleet in Manila har bor took a part and shelled tbe in surgent camps. Tbe Pennsylva nia troops were in the fight; a num ber were killed. Some fortv Ameri-1 cans were killed and one hundred ami twenty hve wounded. Of the enemy 1,000 were wounded and 3,000 were killed. The Americans drove the insurgects 10 miles from the city. The insurgents had an agent at Washington .... . a .... uamcu Aconulho, when he learned of the fight, he fled from W.Bi; . Canada, to escape arrest. ' T aa . THE reniiVili,H, . . Thk United SUtes has not had time to form au acquaintance with her new citizens on the islandi of the Pacific, recently taken from Spain, till she is called on to whip them. Well, so goes the world. We whipped Spain within tht past year, for humanity's sake, now we are compelled to whip tht former subjects of Spain on the Philippine islands because that stubbornly refuse to accept our humanitarian interference.
