The build ing is now undergoing extensive re pairs and the eniire interior has Toen gutted. While ono of the la borers were eugagod in digging at a spot directly under the place where the old vault was built, the 1 beneath his" feet -gnTe-a?T'a'n"t''''fie found himself thrown into a pit about five feet deep. An investiga tion was made and it was discover- ! ed that a mine had been dug by un j known persons at no distant date I for the evident purpose of robbing i the Bank. It was followed up for some dfs I tance into an adjoining cellar, where the hole had becu neatly stopped up m bucu a manner that it could not be noticed by any liersou who enter ed the cellar. It is supposed that the burglars obtained entrance to the cellar through a small window asgener- and dirt from the mines were earned away in bags, presumably, as none of it could be found in the cellar. It is thought tnat the bank was removed to its present temporary location be fore all arrangements could be made to crack the safe. The mine is now bing filled with concrete and the ground under lioitth the vault will Ik? covered with heavy stones, so as to prevent the possibility of another mine.
