Try it and 4u ot 'W anv to go to seed, for when they get a start once tbey are a ter riblw pest to get rid of. It ia said that John D. Hooler, of Brown township, cut patches of them down aeveral tims last year and left none go to seed for two miles arouad his farm. I! there were more per sons intereted in destroying tlrm like Mr. Hotly they would soon be totally destroyed. Last Wednesday evening, a bolt of light ning 4 truck the farm bouse of Elias Horn ing, in Fermanagh township. Occupied by Wm. Stine, at the tirce the family were ta king aupper. The bolt first ctms in con tact with tbe west end of tbe comb of tbe bouse, te.ixing a strip of shingles, eighteen inches wide, of!" tbe roof, thence by tbe spouting to tbe cistern where it divided, one portion passed into tha cistern, auoth er portion darted into the kitchen by an open window and knocked Mrs. Stine off her supper chair. Peof le when struck by lightning are not conscious as to the cause ot their prostration, and Mrs. Stine was no exception. Before assistance could reach her she sprang to herleet exclaiming, :Ob, I have been hit by a brick !" The only mark on her person was an uncommonly red ear. Some one of the family reached the garret with a bucket of water in time to save the building from tire. The lightning had act fire to a rope that fastened the roof hatch and from there the fire was com municated to a piece or two of old cloth ing which lay against the roof and in that way the roof was fired and in a blaze where the clothing lay against it. Tbe bucket of water put tbe fire out.
