Hees, on Thir teenth street It seeius that a friend of the family, Miss Annie Wolf, of Lancaster, b;is been visiting at Mr. Ucess. About 1 o'clock on the morn ing of the 17th she was awakened by the touch of some one passing his hand over her face. She opened her eyes and discovered a man standing by the bedside, but was afraid to make an alarm. The intruder walk ed to the window and pulled down the blind to keep out the light as day light was fast approaching. Miss Wolf aroused Miss Emma Heess who shared the same bed, and told her that some one was in the room. Miss Heess sprang out on the floor and lighted the gas. While doing so she saw the intruder crawling under the bed, and when the room was illuminated she saw his bare feet sticking out from under the bed. She motioned to Miss Wolf to jump out of bed and the two ran from the room and gave the alarm by scream ing at the top of their voices. Mr. Heess and his sons were aroused at once, and supposing the house was on fire they all got down stairs as quickly as possible. The fellow who caused all the excitement ran down with them and escaped from the house through a rear window before the young ladies could explain what occasioned the alarm. He left no clue and his object in entering the house is still a mystery. It is sup posed that he left his shoes down stairs on entering, in order to walk about without making a noise, but if that was the case he carried them awav with him also. Tu scar or a Harvest Home. The hand swell ed to great proportions in an incred ibly short time, and it was feared the bite of the venomons reptile would prove fatal. Fortunately an old far mer, whose residence is near by, was within easy distance, for as soon as he learned of the occurrence he went into the wood, plucked a few stalks of a weed known as lion heart, and crushing the stalks and leaves to a pulp, put them on the wound as a poultice. The swelling immediately 6 topped and soon passed away alto gether. When the remedy was ap plied first the entire right arm was affected. The next day the teamster was almost as well aa ever.
