In Gaovc, Iowa, 6c , 1880. tiiltr Sanlinel and Republican Dei Sir, As many of your readers have friends and' acquaintances in this county, a few words from me may not be without interest. This (Ma) coanty is sitosled in what is known as Northwestern Iowa," and is also on the Missouri Slope," generally conceded to bt die best part of the State, altliotigh it is all good. I have been in Iowa two yers, bnt loca ted in this town only a few months ago, my residence dating from the I7th of June last. I have traveled across the State, from east to West, three times, and do not h.siute to say that this is the best I art of it that 1 have seen. The soil is very fertile, the country is well watered with pure running streams, the climate is mild and healthful, and the crops nave never been known to fail, but are uniformly good. This county is rapidly settling up with a remarkably good cits of people, many of them coming from Penn sylvania, especially from the vicinity of Harru.bnrg. The farmers in this county are prospering fiaely, and all kinds ot business is good. I am engaged in the hardware krade, and although I have been here but a short time, our business is all that we could ask for. I consider myself as permanently nettled, having no desire whatever to change from this county to any other. This is the best country have ever seen, horses, cattle, hogs and sheep doing ro 'uarasbly well, and being raited lor less than one-fourth the cost that they ran be in Juniata. 1 lived in your county thirteen years, but no more "Blue Juniata" for me. "This country offers advantages ta the im migrant that I never dreamed of until I came her and saw for myself. Oid Juniata has thousands of good men who will toil twelve months in the year, for a lifetime, without accumulating much more than enough to psy their funeral expenses, When a few years of well directed Isbor, here, Would secure them a competence. Tours, respectfully, g. n.GiKGkicn. COCSTRr OIKL?. Meta Victoria Fuller, in a srrteHy wsy thus talks to country girls : The farmers' daughters are soon to be the lite as well as the pride of this country ' a glorious race of women which no other land can show. 1 seek not to flatter them ; tor before tbey can become this, they will have to make an earnest effort of one or two things. There are some who deprecate their condition, and some who have a false pride in it, because tbey demand more con sideration than tbey inert. A want or in telligence upon all the subjects of the day, and of a refined education, is do more ex cusable in a country than in a town-bred girl, in these dsys of many books and news papers. Many girls are discouraged because they cannot be sent away Iroui home to boarding schools but roee of superior min's snd knowledge of the world would rsther have for wives women well and properly educa ted at home. And this education can be had wherever the desire is not wanting. A taste for reading does wonders; and an earnest thlrM alter koo"vledire is almost cer tain to attain a sweet draught from the Pierian spring.' 'There is a farmer's daughter in this ver room in which I am writing a beautiful, r?lned and intelligent woman in whose girlhood books were not so plenty as now, and who obtained her fine education coder difficulties which would have discouraged any but oue who had a true love tor study." This is the season for gun accidents. The two following have b'-en taken from the Franklin Repository or last week: Two tons of George Deueen, of Union tdwflshlp; Fulton county; started to take a loaded gun from the house to their lather, who was in the woods, for the purpose of shooting a pheasant. While on the road the elder of the two, who w carrying the gun, told his brother he was going to shoot him. The little fellow, who is but twelve years of age, ran from him, when the elder brother fired the whole load of shot into his body, dangerously wounding him. He is still lying in a precarious situation. Some attribute the affair to viciousness on the part of the lad, while others claim it was an accident. We regret to learn that Mr. Jeremish Row, of KourerrUle, met with a serious ac cident by shooting, on Friday last- He had gone into a corn-field with a gun and dog rab'jit hunting. The dog started up a rab bit which it caught and lulled. Mr. &. in stooping down to pick up the rabbit, his gun being cocked, dischsrged it, the load enter ing under his left arm and lodging in the npper part of the shoulder. It appears an artery was cut, and considerable difficulty, was experience in "preventing death from bleeding. But we learn Dra. Brown and FranU, who were in the vicinity at the t.me the accident occurred, finally succeeded in Buying iu flow, .nd he was removed to bis homeona.tre.cber.
