In a misguided moment Nathaniel lload listened to the tempter and cheat ed. He was instantly detected and, being unable to pay bis penalty in cash bis judges proceeded to administer tbe kicks. Two players got in tbeir all. owaoce and the third was distributing bis veryimpartialy about the defaulters extremities when lload bolted for home nnable to stand tbe balance. His mother made information against the boys for assault and battery and tbey were arrested and taken before tbe Alderman. As malice could not be proven tbe boys were discharged. Joe Magee, a hunter, lives at Stone- ham, in tbe oil region. The other day be went to look for deer. He bid killea one, and was strolling along slowly. when all at once be was startled and surprised at bearing something come tearing through tbe bushes towards him. He bad no time to calculate on what was coming, for, before be could raise bis gun, a big buck jumped over some busbes and landed net ten feet away from him. The deer then saw the man for the first time, and endeav ored to turn bis conrse. In doing so he stumbled and partially fell. Mr. Magee, who is a strong, active man, being too close to tbe animal to shoot, stabbed the barrel of hia gun into his side, just back of his fore legs, and tbe deer fell dead almost instantly. Magee says he did not expect to kill the ani mal, and stabbed bim with the gnn more in self-defense than anything else. Tbe rifle barrel being small, passed through the deer skin and probably penetrated bis heart . .
