People a ho get off the cars there, it they need direc tion, should inquire of railroad olhcitls tor directiou. The following from the llarris burg Telegraph of last Friday tells its own story, aud iulor.ua tho reader how impor tant it is that passengers in gettiug tiff the cars at Uarrisburg make inquiry of the proper persons : Last night about half-past nine o'clock, as Ollieer Uarnian was pacing bis beat on Chestnut street be heard a woman screai l from Dea berry avenue, an 1 hastening in that direct lot he lound, just below Chest nut street, a small, slight boill woman cry ing bitterly. In response to Lis inquiry she said that she arrived in tnis city on the Beading train aud was on her way West. She wauted to go to the Peunsx Ivania depot and asked a tutu to show her the way. He told her to go with him, and together they started. Iustead ot taking her to the Pcnu svlvauia depot be took her t Chestnut street and up that street toward Third. When they reached Dewberry avenue he caught hold ot her and dragged her to a daik place. The woman now divining the rascal's intention at-t up a scream, which brought the residents ol the vicinity to their doors and the policeman to her rescue. She gave an accurate description of the man, who, she said, ran off as fast as he could. Putting the wumai in care of some of those who were at trie ted to the spot, ho promised to see her safely to the train, the ollieer started iu search of the mau. Ue found him in one of the alleys and going up to him said, 'I want you." "For that wo man aflairf" asked the fellow. "Yes," said the officer as be grabbed hi.n. The fellow went along quietly, but when near the corner of the alley an accomplice sneaked up behind the officer ad dealt him a powerful blow back of tlw ear, knocking hitu into the middle ol the street. Both rascals then made off as last as possible. The officer was stuuued for the time, but in a few minutes was able to report the affair at the Mayor's office. A strict was kept at the depot all night, but neither of the men was Captured. The woman left lor the West on one of the night trains. The wonders of Eddison's inventions, as shown in the Telepnone, Microphone, Pho nograph, and Electiir Liht, are nothing when compared with the wonderful reduc tion in the price of Furniture in llillliutown within the pait few montht. This most remarkable event has not been caused by any reduction iu the cot I of mas-trACTi-BiKB Furniture, but has been brought about by a simple, legitimate competition in the sale thereof. .Sow, we do not pretend to sell our im mense Stock of Fl'BMTlBK, Caepets, Oil Cloths, Lookixo-GlassBS ke., at cost, but do expect to make a reasonable prufit suf ficient to cover expanses ol bnsiueas and make a little money besides ; nevertheless, we do claim that au examination of our Uoods and Prices will convince the most sKcplica! that if the profits made in the sale of Furniture in Miifiintown iu the piSt has not been simply ENORMOUS and EXOR BITANT, there was at leasl a wide niargm for reduction.
