On Sunday morning a man named Michael II a I pin, formerly ot Hollidays burg, as night bora at Moorhead's mill, Pittsburg, together with Edward Crow der, were standing near the blast fur case, preparatory to running off tbe hot metal. - Around ' the base of the furnace, snd at its front is ada-n plate, inside of which ia eoil of pipe filled with water. .. About six inches from the tapping hole the molten, iron broke through the dam plate and burned off tbe pipe, which let the water into the furnace, and an explosion immediately followed.; The bole through which the iron had passed, ia rinding it wsy into the dam-plate was much enlsiged, and the remit wa, the red hot metal rushed out with great force, striking Hatpin on the back, knocking him a considerable distaueo, when he fell on the gruuud and was literally covered with the molten mass. , Me was rescued by offi cer liruoot, who dragged liiut from the place where laadJ in falling. ' On betug takeo to an adjumiug room it was found that every stitch of cloth iug was burned from his hotly save bis boots and belt which were badly char red. ' " ' '' "r Tbe injuries received by Edward Crowder are of such a nature that it ia feared tbey will prove fatal. He was stsnding by the side of Hatpin at the time of the acdident, and while the former received tbe bulk of the metal on bis back, tbe latter was not struck aa fairly, ard as a eonsequcnoe was not so severely hurt.
