It states that the number of councils in good standing is 267 ; during the past year 12 coudcils were chartered, 10 were dissolved and 9 forfeited their charters. The number of members reported as per returns of subordinates (or the year ending June 30, 1874, was 25,892; Dumber initiated daring the yeir 1675 ; received by card, 146 j reinstated, 84 ; total, 23,097. ',The number suspended wa 228I; expelled, 33; withdrawn by card, 81; deceased, 159, leaving the total membership on June 30, 1875, 25,543. The amount of money received by subordinates daring the year was $149, 104.41, by State council, percentage, $3,858 ; paid bj subordinates foi ben efit and relief, $G1,GU2 C8. The amount in treasuries of subordinates on June 30, was $278,469.75 ; balance in State council treasury oa the same date was $4,048.85. The receipts of widows' and orphans' fund were $3,823.03. A letter from Beltsville, Md , to the Baltimore Jlmencan, says: 1 ob serve in yoar newspaper that the "epi zootic" is becoming worse, and there fore write yon pro boni publico. All the horses in my neighborhood were affected when the "epizootic" was here last, except my own, and when it ap peared in Washington I adopted sn expectant treatment successfully as I suppose. I mentioned my treatment to a friend and he adopted it, writing to have bis twenty-seven horses treated in like manner. . They were eight hun dred miles west, aud escaped, although all the horses surrounding were attack ed. We learn from Perry township, that Mr. Frederick Bathfon, a well-to-do farmer of the above-named township, on Mon day evening last shot his son Thomas, a man aged abont thirty-five years. Thomas Ralbfon is in the habit of get ting drunk, and when under the influ ence of liquor is very abusive, and be has frequently ,when intoxicated, threat ened the life of his father and mother. Oo the evening in question be came home intoxicated, and began to abuse his old mother, choking ber until she grew black in her face, his father inter fered when bis son, who is a strong man, attacked him, and as a last resort, fear ing personal harm, he shot him, the ball taking efect in his side. For a time the young man's life was in dan ger, but he will, we now learn, recover. We hope that this sad affair will teach the son a lesson that will have a salu tary effect ; when be is not uoder the influence of liquor, be is said to be a quiet and inoffensive citixen.
