Within about two weeks past Mr. Watson Sbaw, residing on his father's farm, a mile east cf Logan Iron Works, has lost eleven cows by death, ail dyinf after a short and very biugular illness. John Y. Kreps, residing close by, also lost a cow in the same way. As a steer from a Texas drove tad strayed into Mr. Shaw's field a few weeks ago, the idea obtained that the cows must bare died from the Spanish fever, which is so common amongst Texas cattle. But a poit mortem examination of Mr. Krcps'J cow developed the fact that ht-r death was produced by a small insect or tick, thou-ands probably millitms-of which were found all through her insides iu the stomach, liver, kiJnejs, entrails. ic.--as well as many - Upon her body outside. The presumptiou now is, that all the cows died from a similar cause. and that the ticks must have been brought here by the Texas cattle- Owners ot cows and other cattle wil do well to examine them frequently, with a view to destroying this danger ous iusect upon its first appcarauce. It has been suggested to us that by thor oughly oiliug or greasing the animal ex terually, or washing with diluted car bolis a:id, before the ticks shall find their way into tbe stomach, will doubt less prove an effectual remedy.
