He died surrounded by i his fhmily aud friends, in the exercise of a lively faith, | and the hope of a glorious Immortality beyond the grave. T. R. At Columbian Hospital, In Washinston city. 8.C., on the 18th of May hist. Cl.ixe FORCE. a member of Co. K, 62d | Regt. P. V.,* in the 34th year of hi*age. Mr. Force was drafted last summer, and believing it to be a duty to respond to the call of his country, he de clined the as-dstance of hi* frien*Jg<. through whom he could have paid his commutation. His only regret was, in leaving hie beloved wife and six charming little daugh ter*. Their lot too, has been hard. Early in the winter, the family took sick—two of the children died. Mr. i Force obtained a furlough and came home; but its short- I n«»s Would not permit him to stay till the fate of the rest of his family was certain. We saw him as he left home; I sad indeed must have been bin heart, for the recovery of | his wife and one of his remaining children was still ! doubtful—still he bore np with firmness, lfe was wound ed in the battle of the WUdorncss, and died as above sta ted. We chanced to be present whon the sod intelligence reached his wife, by means of the following letter, whtch we publish, not only for the purpose of giving the par ticulars <if this case, but also, for pnrpoee of lettinK those who have lost friends, or who have sick or wounded I friends in the Government Hospitals, seethe kindutanner they we cared for by those self-sacrificing women, who forgetting everything else around them, hear only the plaintiff voice and see only the dying man, May Heav en s choicest blessings be poured upon them. T. R. COLUMBIA* HOSPITAL, WAMIIKOTON D.C., May 19,1804 j Mas. C'LINE FORCE : — Dear Mndan\: I have very sad J news to eommunicnto to you—but 1 hope und trust that j I you will have strength to bear it. Your husband was brought to this Hospital, and pla- i i cfl in my Ward, some days tdnce. 1 think on Saturday j ; last. He had a wound in the left side which did not ap- ' i pear very bad on the outside —it was rather a small one, i i blithe seemed very tired, and quite exlucusted, as many of his comrades did, or those who were in the some tent, j I dressed his wound frequently, and prepared nearly ! all his f.»od myself. He had toast ami tea often, with ap- j pie sance, and currant sauce. He seemed to like the gru- J el I mode for him of milk and corn starch, so I |#epated i it fieqneutly. lie also bad beef tea. His Dr. wan one of J the very best we have here, and saw him several times a ; day, and 1 know did all for hiru that was possible. ! After a few days he seemed to become rested, and yes terday lo< k'-d brighter than I had seen him before. 1 j i told him that he wan looking much better, and that I J tbought he would be up in a few days. A good deal was j j said to cheer him up, *.nd finally he laughed considerably to hear us talk so cheerfully. I often made lemonade for j him. with nice white sugar in It, and he seemed to enjoy . it very much. All the time he was very pleasant, uu-U j seemed t > have Ik very sweet disposition, and always . thanked m« for all I did for him. Subscribers will receive either Registered or Coupon B. nds, as thoy may prefer. Registered Bonds are record ed on the books of the U. 8. Trea«urer, and can be trans ferred only on the owner s order. Coupon Bonds are payable to bearer, anil are more convenient for commer cial u«es. Subscribers to this loan will hare the option of having I their Bonds draw interest from March Ist. by paying the accrued interest in coin—for In United States note*, or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty por cent, for I preminm,) or receive them drawing Interest from the j date of subscription nnd deposit. It is believed that no securities offer so great induce ments to lenders as the various descriptions of U. 8. Bonds. Tn nil other forms of Indebtedness, the fiith or ability of j private parties or stock companies or Repirato eoinmunl ' ties only Is pledged for payment, while for the debts of the United States the whole property of the country is hidden to secure the payment of both principal and in- j tcrest In coin: | Thy" Butuls may bo subscribed for In sums from s.">o 1 pto any magnitude, on tho same terms, and are thus i mnde equally available to the smallest lender and the largest capitalist.
