An Important Case.
The case of Dred Scott, now being ar
gued before the Supremo Court at Wash
ington, involves the constitutionality of the
Missouri Compromise mid the power of
Congress to prohibit Slavery in u Territo
ry, in the following; manner : Scott is tlio
sun of a slave woman belonging to au I
army olhcer, w ho moved with his lannly
and slaves into the Territory, where, by
the Mis-souri Compromise, Slavery wna
prohibited. There Scott was boru, but
was afterward carried Lack to Missouri,
and is now held therein ru a slave, lie
sues for his freedom, on the ground that
he was born free, by virtue of the .Missouri
Prohibition. The case bus been before
the Supreme Court a year or more, auj
was argued, but not decided last winter.

Imitation. The Chinese tailors do not
measure their customers, but make clothes
according; to the pattern giving them. An
American captain being at Canton and
wanting a uew coat, sent the proper quan

which was copied even to the bole in the

A jolly old darkey down South bought

raining he put it under hia arm. When
asked why he did not put it on his head,
he replied : " lc hat's mine ; bought him

let him take care of his own property."

Reason and Common Senss.
Our readers may remember we hare on
several occasions spoken in very eulogistic
terms of a preparation which Dr. Hi.tu S.
HaNcc, of ICS Haltimore St. Haltunote. M I.,
has discovered for the cure of Epileptic Firs.
Now, in doing so, we have betn aeiuated by
Ihe very best motive, viz the alleviation of
human sutfering. From circumstances which
have lately come to our knowledge, we fear
there is a class of persons whe are iiot dispo
sed to try this remedy in a common sense
manner. We allude to the fact of selecting a
particular case in a town where perhaps there
are six or eight cases, and trying il on one.
