Tie World Within. Many tell us of ilic beauties Of the worU wherein we dwell, Of the forest, rock, and fountain. Of the crystal uream and dell; Of the outward ties that chaiu us With a holy binding spell. Of th gentle word of kindness. Thai invites as that is veil, Still, there's a world of beauty Lies bidden from the view Th ssered world within as. With its raried shape anl hue. Who can read the happy spirit? Who can paint the pleasing scene I Are not th (lights that us inherit Brighter far than gems may seem ! Hav not hope more verdaut t'liage Than the palm or forest tree Do not thought more pentlv ripple Than a peaceful moonlit sea I, Though the storms of adverse fortune On the ontwar I world may frown. Still the inward world may glisteu . With a radiance ail its own. The rock mijestic towering, Thecavern h-mnled shore. May be matched in minds imagining Till time shall b no more ; The ocean's vast expansion, With its fathomless abyss. And treasures deeply hidden, Are small compared to this' The mind's insatiate longing, With endl-ss motion rife. Knows on ending nor a limit Through the acme path of life; E'en then its powers expanding. When this world no more is seen, Troves the beautiful enduring Of the world that dwells within. A Story for Children. There was ones a farmer, wlio hid a large field of corn J ho ploughed it and planted the corn, and harrowed it and weeded it with great can, and on his field he depended for the chief support of his family. Hut after he- had worked hard, he saw the corn began to wither and droop for rain, and he began to have fears for his crop. lie felt scry sad, and went over every day to look ,at his corn, and tea if there win any hope of rain. One day as he stood looking at the sky, and almost in despair, two little rain drops up in the elouJ over his head saw him, and one taiJ to the other : "Look at that poor farmer ; I feel sorry fir hira ; he has taken so much pains with his fi.:l J of corn, and now it is all drying up; I wish I oul l do him some good." 'Yes," said the oth"r, ''but you are only a little rain drop, what could you do? Yon can't even wet one hillock." "Well," said the Cr.-t, "to be sure I can't do much, but I can cheer t'.ie farmer a little at any rate, and I am resolved to do my best. I'll go to the field to show my good will, if I can do do more; and so here I go." And down went the rain j drop one came pat on the farmer's nose, j end ono fell on a stalk i f corn. Dear me," said the farmer, putting his finger to his I mose, "what ? A rain drop ! AVhcre did j that come from : 1 do lulieve we snail have a rhower." The Erst rain drop had no saoDcr start ed for the field, than the second one said, "Well, if yon are going, Ielieve I will go too; here I come." And down dropped the rain drop on another stalk. JSj this time a great mauy rain drops had come together to hear what their com panions were ta'king about, and when they sasr them going to cheer the farmer, and water the corn, one said, "If you are go ing on such a good errand, I'll go too ; and down be came. "And I" said anoth er, "and I," "and I," aul so on, till a whole shower of them came, and the corn was watered, and it grew and ripened, all because the first little rain drop dctcrenii ed to dj scW if eouM. Never be discouraged, cVJ-lren, because yon can't do much, lfo tctmt you can ansrels can do no more. Thb Victory. Tho Louisville Times states as an incident of the mob in that city, the following : "A woman who attempted to save her husband, was pitched down stairs, break ing her neck and limbs so that she died. The mob, finding their game scarce, set the torch to tlio houses ; the women fled one who was fiVeing with a young infant in her arms, was followed by a hard-hearted wretch, who was coming up, put the muzzle of the weapon to the child's head, fired, and bespattered its brains over its mother's arms.
