If there be any dan ger from this source, wo also sound the alarm; and we would add X:fiUuLurij,Xca JMin, Ejrtly, lluftih, White D,rr, to the same catalogue. Yes, it is wroug, and dangerous, to allow any HuRougii on Towssnir to have undue influence in regulating county matters. Tho caution, invidiously' intended for Lewiaburg, we extend to all the other districts. A very influential citizen of our Bor ough argued, some months since, that it would be a good thing for our interests, as a town, if not one man here should ever a.k for a County Office. In that case, all onr population would prosecute their ordi nary calling successfully as they have heretofore ; we should not be infested with office-intriguing lazaroni ; and the in flux of others to transact county business, would be cou'tantly adding to onr pnpula tinu. We hope the day never may come when lcwisburg or any other Town or Town fhip can rule Union connty. When any place, clique, or party become so strong as to-"rc)rulate" all others, it is time there should be a change. Tho people of the connty owe it to themselves in this the outset of their existence as a new county to guard against improper influence from any quarter, be it New IJorlio.Mifflinburg.l Lcwisburg, or any of the Townships. (A lis COrres- , e , - - , ponJdut asserts,) for tlio benefit of tho world iu general and Mifllinburg in par ticular. Shorn of its political rays, entire ly neutral on all other local questions, it Mhedii iu concentrated effulgence of light on the question of the county Beat, and really seems to think it stamls gome chance since the Miltvnian and Gas We gave their disinterested blasts upon Lewi6borg,aad had tliier thunder echoed by tho Timrt. Most of! the rotuarliH are, however, too trifling to rnj'iire attention, and although we might at the time have replied, our absence aud illncas prevented, and they aio hardly worth rej-Ufciiating. The Aiwu.MKSTs used by tho Star in favor of Mifflmburg, are mostly those an- ticipatcd by our correspondent "Friendly," who wc have no doubt was sinecro in bis 1 desire to serve Mifllinburg, and who enr I tainly urged its claims quite as effectually Xha 1st argument advanced is tbo ulle- god "centrality" of the town, but the t J iSor does not quote our remarks on that .)0;nf jf tho KJJtt,r WJI let il Traders . , ""at we sail about ccntrality, wc ask no more. The -d argument is the "healthiness" f , . , , . , . ,, . ,.-,. - i a to that of .Lcwisburg, but urges not a word of proof of it, except refcring to "last summer, fall, and winter." It is well known that last year was the most un healthy kuutvn in iiufiuloe in SO years, but it is also Lnnwn that Mifiliuhurg suf- fered as weil as Lcwisburg. Our position is high up from the river, street wide and clean, pure air the best of chance for cir culation. During tho 52 weeks including tho extremely sickly acason of hist year, there were 1 1 deaths of persons between the ages of 20 and CO certainly not an alarming mortality in a borough of 2500 to 3000 inhabitants, containing a large num ber of persons engaged in boating and other dangerous employments which often sond them home diseased, l'ersons enga ged in the same occupations, we dare as sert, arc as healthy in Lcwisburg as in Mifllinburg, and the people of the county j know this fact t oo well to be deceived by the mere say -so of the Star. The 3d argumcut is a half-way fling at the hotels of Lcwisburg, as not affording as good or as e'ueap accommodations as i tii oo of Mirlhuburg. We do not know as "Frietidly" advanced this brilliant idea, but wc know that the 7Vmci aud New lierlincrs made all tho capital possible out of it before tho Division. It happens that one of our hotels conducted by a gentle man who had the reputation of keeping tho best house iu Miflliuburg and New Iterlih, can accommodate as miuy as all those in .uiiuiuburg ; anu toe three oi tiers are as large, a good, and as reasonable as as those (if Mifllinburg. Wheat and corn, hay aud oats, grow around Lewiaburg as well as her rival ; our people can command as much money to buy them ; wo live as near the city as our up-country neighbors, and can raise cash or credit to get coffee, tea, sugar, &c. quite as easily as they can; and as our hotels bavo flourished hereto fore tcilhout Court custom, they certainly can be as reasonable as Williamsport, Danville, Harrishurg, Pottsville, Lancas ter, Heading, &a. towns larger, and pay ing heavier rcuts than ours with that I custom. JNeitber tact nor reason teach the claim of Mmlinburg to bo true in this respect ; and New fterlin can tell them that it won't "kill" Lcwisburg. The SV(tr seems to question onr opi nion as to tho people having already virtu ally decided in favor of Lcwisburg, but takes care not to quote our whole para graph in relation to that point If it will copy the paragraph from which it scissor ed a portion, we will be content. We cf course know that mauy Divisionists will go for Mifllinburg, because of its vicinity and supposed advantage to them ; but at the same time it is equally clear that many Anti-Dicinitmisls, sinco the county is ujvidi.li, think Lcwisburg is the proper place for the Couuty IiuiLi;r 't,TZ f B7TittiiT-TU"' C,B'3 ?if J Overbalance the o The Star states that "?15, DUUion Lau require vouuiy 'isii.i.,;r, ibt ut uruaikuce me oilier.
