Tornado at Louisville Appalling Ca lamity. Cincinnati, August 28. Information has been received here of a most appalling calamity at Louisvillo. A terrific tornado passed over the city about 12 o'clock, yes terday, (Sunday,) which did great damage to property, and caused the loss of many lives. second despatch. Cincinnati, August 28. The Louis ville papers of this morning, received here this afternoon, contain full particulars of the tornado which visited that city yes terday. The Democrat describes tho storm as one of the most violent that was ever experienc ed in that section. The Third Presbyte rian Church, on the corner of Eleventh & Walnut streets, was completely wrecked. The entire building, brick walls, roof, raf ters, &e., fell down whilst tho congrega tion wcro assembled for worship. Twenty of the congregation were instantly crash ed to death, and some ten or twenty others were seriously wounded the scene was heart-rending. In a few moments a large crowd assembled around the ruins and commenced an active search for the vic tims. A mother and her three children were found erouped in death. Another scene presented a fathcr, mothcr and young child the father dead and the mother mortally wounded, while their little child, placed between them, escaped unhurt, be ing protected by the forms of its parents. Iu other instances, persons were extricated terribly bruised and maimed. The catastrophe had stricken consterna tion into the very heart of the city, and its citizens arc appalled beyond expression. Fully one hundred buildings were un roofed and otherwise injured. The storm past over that part of the ci ty lying between Fifth and Twenty-first streets. A spendid block of four story houses recently erected on the north side of Main street, between rjiglitu and iNintn, was completely destroyed, and two or three men arc supposed to be buried in the ruins. These buildings cost 18,000. The upper story of the Rope and Rag ging Factory of W. A. Richardson & Co., on Magazine street, was blown down, and the new City School House, at the corner of Ninth and Magazino street?, was un roofed. The total loss is estimated at 8100,000. The storm was also very severe in Jiflcr- sonville, where four housca wcro blown down. Louisville, Ky., Aug. 9. Agreea ble to the proclamation of Mayor Speed, all business houses were closed yesterday. Tho bells were tolled, and the funcia' service of the unfortunate victims was preached at Rev. Dr. lircckcnridge's church. An immense coneousre of people gath ered to hear Rev. Dr. Morrison, pastor of the demolished church. He said that the door of the church was blown open, the house was filled with dust, and in an in- g.ant l(s doat ruction was complete. Dr. . . , .. . .. .. . Morrison was m the pulpit at the time of the catastrophe, and escaped uninjured. Union County Business. Issue List, Sep. T. 1854. Michael Vsncr Ti Chsrl Cawley " an-i . -1 fUUTt" lliIIr.
