For the Lf-fl.nri: Chroniela.
I was pleased with part of an extract
from a letter which you published in your
last paper relative to our Congressman, but
I confess that I was somewhat surprised
to find even iu that ititeuded laudation,
that be was then on the "21st of July,
about starting for his home, though Con
gress would not adjourn fir sonic seven
teen days afterwards. The presumption in
mj mind however was that the labours
referred to in that letter had pressed too
heavily upon a constitution already pressed
down with age, and that nature ex
hausted had driven the old man to scek
quict and rest in the bosom of his family.
I could not think that a man who had
been so valiant in the fi'lit as to suffer
Lunger and peril by night and by day
would for a trifling cause have left the
field just at a time when the labours of an
eight months' session was coming to a
focus for, it must be remembered, that
all the imjwrfant till are usua'ly acted
upon during the last week of Congress.
Hut never was money voted away more
lavishly than during the last week of the
session just closed. Millions upon milli

were raised without stint almost every

It was known that the Administration was

PNot one of the New Berlin papers
has yet given the Division Bill to its rea

the printing of the anonymous handbill,
aud claims it to be correct. We have the
best authority for saying that the Bill as
it passed the Senate had a Proviso added,

is omitted iu the anonymous edition got
up at the Star office, which is simply the
Bill as first "read in place."
Can any of our subscribers inform us if
these bills are extensively circulated "all
over" the South side of the county, as the
Star states.
ftThe Disorganizers have had their
organization, and in it, New Berlin we
believe "fixed" everything important to
suit her own interests "Chairman" not
excepted ! We fearlessly challenge the
comparison of the four principal candid
ates. As far as we know, no attempt was
made to interfere with their plans. It is
now for the Juniata and Mifflin Whigs to
decide between ug. Let them do it cau
tiously and wisely !
