The proposed division of Union county may leave only two "townships' but tlieu they will be very apt, in less than teu years, to rival the ' everlasting elate ' in energy, population, and wealth. The Senate spent some time in getting themselves befogged in a discussion on the Bank question. Some siw their way through clear enough others were deci dedly in the dark ; certain sections were passed subsequently reconsidered and there it ended. The bill to prevent the floating of loose logs in the Mushannon and Clearfield creeks, was taken up, and advocated by Bvron D. Hamlin, of M'Kean county. Mr. Quiggle of Clinton, opposed it with : ranch warmth. Mai. Frv declared he " went with Quiggle." Mr. Slifer opposed j the bill, on account of its partial applica- j tion to two particular creeks. It was lost , on final reading, 12 to 19. The HtHxe passed a large number of private bills, amo-ig them one authorizing the Sunbury & Erie Railroad Company to borrow Two Millions of Dollars. Ten passenger and two baggage cars left Harrisburg for Pittsburg this after noon, crowded with passengers. A large number of burglaries have recently been committed in different por tions of Harrisburg, chiefly in dwellings, and with no heavy rewards for such great trouble and risk. Professor John Landis, "divine poet, painter, and oriental traveler," graces the Senate daily with his flowing beard and simple costume, and is applying for aid in patenting one of his original conceptions. Professor Emerson, the biographer, is also ' about," gathering materials and consid eration for " that book." The rains of to-day, give Tcgetation decided! improved appearance;. A Divorce Cask.
