"The Executive Committee of the
Union County Agricultural Society will
meet at New Derliu on Tuesday next
at 1 o'clock P. M. to decide upon the lo
cation of the first Annual Fair of the So
ciety. tSFXVe are happy to announce that on
Monday last the Commissioners of Union
County signed and delivered to the Direc
tors, 200 bonds for $1,000 each, being the
account of their subscription to the Susque
hanna Railroad. This fulfilment of an
honest contract arrests the legal proceed
ings which had been commenced, and re
moves the only remaining obstacle in the
way of the progress and early completion
of the road. The Commissioners also
modified the origiual conditions of the
subscription so far ns to permit the Direc
tors to locate the road cn either bank of
the river, after paasiug the uorthern limits
of Uuion county. This was doue to ena
ble them to cross over to Muncy aud pro

Fire. On Monday night, last, about
12 o'clock, the Mammoth Drag Store of
Dr. Thornton & Christ, on Market Street
in this place, waa discovered to be on fire
in the second story. The flames soon
burst out through the roof and spread with
frightful rapidity. The adjoiuing dwell
ing house of Dr. T. H. Wilson soon caught,
and, with the drug store both frame

rushing to the window of his chamber, in

they fled precipitately as for their lives,
and only partially clad. Only a small por
tion of the contents of the drug store was
saved, including several cans of gunpow
der, which were removed at the first alarm,
together with several kegs of it, in an ad-
jacent warehouse. But the fire was for-

I J. & J. Walls, on the cast, was also in im
miuent peril, but with the Lelp of wet
blankets and carpets on the roof aud sides,
its destruction was luckily preveuted. Dr.
Wilson's office, a small building within
three feet of his kitehfn was also saved.
The sparks and Luruing cinders fell in
showers on the stables and ware house :'ud
loose straw within sixty and eighty feet of
the fhinies, and also on the Baptist church,
but the dampness occasioned by the late
rains prevented their ignition. The night
was clear and cool, with the wind at first
from the west, then from the north, wlieu
it lulled fur a time. With a high wind

of the tovu woulJ doubtless have been de
