spesso e volentieri a parlare degli
Italiani in generale, e dell'Ordine
Figli d'ltalia in Ispeeial modo.
L'opera di questo bravo giovane
neutralizza la propaganda di qual
che rettile che insozza il nome d'ita
liano, che disgraziatamente porta,.
Vorrei, signor dittetore, sapee scri
vere meglio per mettere alla gogna
eertl messeri che in America porta
no il colletto alla "francescantonio",
ma che in Italia sono vissuti sempre
reietti, ecco perche' sono nemici del
nostro nome e della patria adorata

I found that the S-S "LIBERTY
LAND", operated by the Corpora
tion under contract of purchast
from the Shipping Board, was in thi
Port of New York having recently
undergone extensive repairs, con
aistlng of having bottom scrapec
and painted and general overhaul
lng of machinery. This vessel I:
in excellent physical condition an<
was under commitment, arranger
by the Corporation, to carry cargc
of cotton, etc., from New Orleam
to Genoa. Steps were immediate
ly taken to dispatch the vessel tc
meet this commitment but in se
doing she met with an acciden!
which necessitated replacing mas
ter gear on anchor windlass, caus
ing a delay of five days in her sail
ing. As a result of this accident
and enforced delay, it was necessa
ry to change her New Orleans-Ge
noa commitment to carry cotton,
etc., from Galveston to Liverpool,
which was accordingly done upon
equally advantages terms.
The "LIBERTY LAND" had been
bunkered and supplies put on board
or contracted for, sufficient for the
above mentioned voyage. These
bunkers and supplies had or have
been practically all paid for out
of the funds of the Corporation
Full insurance on vessel Is prepaid
to February, 1921. The "LIBER
TY LAND" has at this writing, beer
dispatched to meet the Galveston-
Liverpool commitment and is now
at Galveston discharging ballast
and taking on cargo. The above
mentioned commitment of the "LI
BERTY LAND" should, and I have
no doubt will, net satisfactory fin
ancial returns.
The Receiver regrets that he i:
unable at the present time to fur
nish you with a more explicit state
ment of the financial affairs and ac
tivities of the Corporation. Yov
will readily understand the reasor
for this from what has been stated
above. I can state, however, thai
ootslde of the indebtedness to the
Shipping Board on account of the
purchase of the S-S "LIBERTY
LAND", the indebtedness of tht
Corporation is comparatively small
1 wish to assure you that full lnfor
■nation relative to the affairs of tht
Corporation will be furnished yot
at the very earliest possible moment
The stockholders should understan
that the Receiver will not only en
deavor, so far as lies in his power
to protect the interests of the ere
dltors but heir interest as well. It ii

Company can be so conducted that
ultimately its business and propertj
can be returned to the stockholders
in such condition that they can ope
rate same successfully. To this
end the Recelv" - asks the patient

THE SONS OF ITIIY SEEK TO
INCULCATE AMERICAN
Tbe following brief and compre
hensive sketch of the Order Sons of
Italy has furnished The Reporter
by Leonard F. Piazza, who is In
charge of the foreign department of
the Union Trust Co., North Main St.
It has been the aim of the Italians
in this country to unite their va
rious fraternal organizations, scat
tered throughout the country, into
one great organization, the funda
mental prlciples of which would
tend toward a better development of
the race, through education and
citizenship.
With this end in view there has
sprung up in this country, through
the efforts of an active leadership,
the organization known throughout
the United States as The Order Sons
of Italy, a fraternal and beneficial
order whose object Is the highest
welfare of the Italians in this
country. Its scope is similar some
what to that of other fraternal
bodies. It Is not a political or re
ligious order, but is intended for
the advancement of Italian thought,
teaching of American citizenship,
betterment of social conditions and
the development of the idea of bro
therhod.
Concludendo egli dice:
The leaders of this magnificent
order are men highly esteemed
and respected by both Italians and
Americans, men who have at heart
the well being of their fellowmen,
and high regard for American
ideals.
Recently the Order, through the
headquarters in Philadelphia, and
under advice of the Grand Vener
able of the Order, Giuseppe Di SU
vestro, purchased the beautiful bu
ilding and grounds of the Maple
wood Institute, located in Concord
vllle, about 22 miles from Philadel
phia, for the purpose of providing
an orphanage for Italian children
whose parents have died and left
them at the mercy of the public
charities. The institute is comple
te its every detail, with all conve
niences of an up-to-date private
school with chemical laboratories,
Workshlps, schos rooms and dormi
tories, large fruit orchards and
dairy and ice plant.
The Italians in this country me
rit praise for the effective welfare
work they are at the present time
carrying on. and for their efforts to
prove to the general public that the
Italians In this country are striving
to discharge their moral obligations
to their adopted country, America.
Tbe Order Sons of Italy in America
is destined to be recognized as a po
tential factor in American social
life.
