"WA sad affair happened in New York on Saturday week, Louis Lapoint, a child about eight years of age. was playing in Water street with his little brother, when Joseph Peager, also a boy, who was on friendly and intimate tests with him, came up, and taking Lotus around the waist with hi. arms, threw him to the pavement. Louis jumped to his feet in a passion, and seizing a bit of lathing, struck Joseph across the knees with it. He then caught up another stick of larger size, with intent to strike him again, but the latter warded off the blow, and, for the time, saved himself. In a few seconds afterward, however. Louis caught up a heavy stick or block, about three feet in length, and dealt his juvenile antagonist a blow on the side of the head with the weapon. The boy went and died on Sunday. A coroner's j'dry was summoned, who rendered a verdict as follows : "Thut Joseph Peager came to his death by compression of the brain, from a fracture of the skull, caused by a blow at the hands of Louis Lapoint, June 4, 1559." On this verdict, the Coroner committed the accused boy to the Toombs, to await the action of the Grand Jury. Deceased was an inter esting lad, eight years and six months old.— Peager, believing that the lad Lapoint had ne Intention of killin his son, seems disposed to be lenient wi th him, and may petition the District Attorney for his dis charge. sorTrack-Y.yin g oa the Green Spring di vision of the Western 1116 1 - 3 u n d R a i lroad ". been eeennesnoed. iirTlecoass W.
