THE DAILY COLLEGIAN JoePa: Bolden's status remains up in the air By Audrey Snyder COLLEGIAN STAFF 'A:P,I'ER Joe Paterno wants people to take a close look at the end of his last name. "I don't have an MD after my name, and I'm not a psychiatrist," Paterno said. But Penn State's head coach said quarterback Rob Bolden will undergo more concussion tests Wednesday and guessed the freshman would not be ready to play Saturday night against Michigan. "I'd guess he's not gonna make it, but that does not mean that I know what I'm talking about." Patent() said. "We'd love to have him play but we're not gonna take any chances Paterno on the Big Ten coaches teleconference downgraded Bolden to very doubtful despite being listed as probable on this week's depth chart. Newsome returned to practice Monday after missing time last week because of illness, and Paterno said Newsome is at full strength, and the knee injury he suffered against the Gophers was not serious. Right guard Stefen Wisniewski said if Bolden is unable to go, he doesn't think the offense will be limited. McGloin's arm strength and Newsome's legs bring a different dimension to the offense. Wisniewski said. Paterno would not give a definitive answer when asked if he would use a two-quar terback system this week but said the team will play it by ear - We're gonna let the kids com pete this week with the idea that we probably won't have Bolden and see what happens," Paterno said. Scouting for Robinson In order to prepare for quarter ni v < N i back Denard Robinson, the Lions are trying to find a player with enough quickness to mimic Robinson's speed on the scout team. So far, the Lions haven't been able to find anyone too similar to Robinson. "we have guys that can do some of the things he does, but we don't have anybody that quick," Paterno said. Defensive end Pete Massaro said redshirt sophomore wide receiver Evan Lewis practiced there on Monday While the Lions try to find the player that closest resembles Robinson. Paterno said he's been emphasizing to the team that everyone needs to keep an eye on Robinson at all times. Massaro wouldn't give any tips when asked if the Lions would spy the quarterback but said. "it's pos sible.- - We're not gonna stop him. He's gonna make yardage on us because he's too good." Paterno "I guess he's not gonna make it. We'd love to have [Bolden] play, but we're not gonna take any chances." said. "He's too good for that. I just hope we can make some plays on him." Powell prepares for time Chaz Powell spent much of the season switching back and forth between offense and defense, but Paterno said he hears the cornerback's name mentioned a lot. "Chaz Powell must have an advertising agent," Paterno joked. "For a guy that hasn't played a lot of football he gets a lot of inches." With cornerback Stephon Morris getting beat on two touch downs and missing a few tackles against Minnesota, Paterno said if Powell has a good week of practice ~_~ WEDNESDAY, OCT. 27, 2010 I 13 he could see more playing time. "If I were to be critical of him, every once in a while he kind of loses his concentration," Paterno said. - When you're playing where he's going to be playing at the cor ner, you're under pressure every down, so I think he needs a good week." Notes: Paterno confirmed wide receiv er Curtis Drake and tight end Andrew Szczerba are officially done for the season. Drake (leg) and Szczerba (back) hadn't played a down this season.
