By Andrew J. Cassavell COLLEGIAN SIAFF WRITER For Jared Odrick, it isn't a mat ter of where he is going —just the fact that by the end of this week end's NFL Draft he will be going somewhere. Odrick, the defensive tackle who was named the Big Ten defensive player of the year and Meagan Kanagy/Collegian Theresa Cornell (junior-nursing) pets a calf at Ag Day, held by the Penn State College of Agriculture on the HUB lawn Wednesday. Cinema creates issues By Vera Greene COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER On May 6, 2008. the United Entertainment Corp. (UEC) wrote a letter to Penn State offering to work with the univer sity to provide classroom space in its theaters Premiere Theater 12, 125 Premiere Dr., and College 9 Cinema, 3031 Carnegie Dr. The university thanked them and said they’d keep it on file, UEC Vice President of Operations John Shorba said. Penn State now plans to possi bly hold lectures and classes in the 10-screen cinema that will be part of the downtown Fraser Centre complex. Shorba said he’s surprised by the potential relationship. " Study to analyze costs A survey will calculate the public cost of police, fire, ambulance and public works spending. By Greg Galiffa COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER A Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) vote on Monday could possibly result in drinking taxes and higher party fines if the group's members decide to commission a study that will calculate spending costs throughout the county. The list came as a shock to many students, mostly because Penn State was named No. 1 party school in 2010 by the Princeton Review. The univer sity did not even earn an honorable mention on Playboy’s 2010 list, though some other Big Ten schools, like the University of lowa, did. “That doesn’t make sense to me,” Erik Forsman (junior-information sci ence and technology) said. The University of Wisconsin- Madison placed third on Playboy’s list but only eighth on the Princeton Review’s list. Steff said. If passed, Steff said the COG Public Safety Committee (PSC) would conduct the study at no cost and focus primarily on events including Nittany Lions football games, State Patty's Day, the Central Pennsyh ania No. 12 on the Princeton Review list. Indiana University ranked No. 14 on the Princeton Review rankings, and Michigan State University’s "Izzone” named after Coach Tom Izzo won an honorable mention in Playboy’s list for best student section in basketball. “While nothing stood out save maybe State Patty’s Day, the fun at Penn State is more a sum of many dynamic parts,” Playboy Assistant Editor Rocky Rakovic said. "If you feel that we made a gross oversight, prove it to us for next year’s list and send us your pictures and stories.” To compile the list, Playboy looks at sex, sports, nightlife, academics and overall campus atmosphere when deciding which schools make the cut. University of lowa (Big 10) psucollegian.com Glatz faces rape trial By Brendan McNally COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER Penn State student Michael Glatz will face trial on felony rape charges after a student testified Wed- nesday that Glatz raped and assaulted her in her State » * College apart ment April 15. Glatz, 23, is charged with two counts each Glatz of felony rape and sexual assault and one count of felony involuntary devi ate sexual intercourse, accord ing to the criminal complaint. He is also charged with one count each of misdemeanor ter roristic threats, simple assault, criminal mischief and two counts of summary harassment, according to the complaint. At the preliminary hearing, Glatz did not testify' and kept his head down, rarely looking at the woman. After a night of drinking at downtown bars and local restau rants, the situation turned vio lent, according to court docu ments. The woman testified that Glatz, 216 Shulze Hall, pulled her across the bedroom of her State College apartment by her pony tail. She said Glatz, whom she knew, forced her to perform oral sex. He then pushed her on her bed and raped her, according to court documents. Before Glatz and the woman drove back to her apartment, the pair verbally fought and at one point he struck the windshield with his hand, causing it to crack, she said in court. After the windshield incident, the woman drove into a parking lot off of Atherton Street, accord ing to the complaint. When she tried to exit the car, Glatz pulled her back in by her hair, police said. Shortly after this, a police offi cer stopped to ask if Glatz and the woman were OK, according to the complaint. The woman told police Glatz instructed her to tell the officer everything was OK, so she did, according to the complaint. The woman testified that Glatz had begun using steroids in January and that there had been a noticeable change in his aggressiveness since then. She said Glatz told her to call See RAPE, Page 2.
