Justin Townes Earle to perform at Cafe By Nick Weingartner COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER Take Townes Van Zandt, Hank Wiliams, Sr. and Steve Earle, put them into a blender and hit puree: That’s how to get Justin Townes Earle, promoter Mark Ross said. Tonight, country-folk heir Townes Earle will take the stage at Cafe 210 West, 210 W College Ave. The singer-songwriter, who has released three records, including the new critically acclaimed “M: Inight at the Movies,” is the son of famous American songwriter Steve Earle. “I like the guy a lot. I think his genetics certainty don’t hurt,” said Ross, a promoter with Apache Music. “I think the cool thing about the guy is that he’s not just riding on his father’s name. He’s writing some good singer-songwriter stuff. I feel like he’s 100-percent legit.” Ross took the promoting reins from J.R. Mangan, a co-owner of If you go What Justin Townes Earie per formance When: 8 tonight Where: Cafe 210 West, 210 W. College Ave. Details: Tickets are $l5. Must be 21 or older Cafe 210 West who heard about Townes Earle’s music from a mutu al friend and saw he was passing through the area. Mangan said he hopes the show will help put Cafe 210 West more into the spotlight of the State College music scene. “We constantly hear about the lack of local music in State College I just hopes it’s the start of hav ing more original music in State College and national acts,” he said. “I hope that we’re a stopping point for acts passing through town.” Ross thinks the venue also offers a more cost-conscious opportunity for the show that wouldn’t be available if it were held at other places. “You can pay $25 to see this guy at the State Theatre, and you can pay $l5 to see him at the Cafe and be close enough to have him spit on you while he’s singing,” Ross said. Jason Mclntyre, one of the show’s openers, said he has shared the stage with Townes Earle before. “He’s a great songwriter,” Mclntyre said. “It’s gonna be a good time.” Mclntyre is also inspired by some of the same artists as Earle mainly Townes Van Zandt, who Earie takes his middle name from. He said he expects the show to be foil of people who are into what Earie is doing. “Any time you get a room full of people who are attentive and into it, that’s the most satisfying feeling Country/fblk musician Justin Townes Earie will perform at 8 tonight at Cafe 210 West, 210 W.
