The Daily Collegian Woodstock fanner’s By Ricky Morales COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER On the last day of the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969, a 49-year-old conservative farmer stepped onstage to address the crowd that had gathered on his property and now, State College will have a chance to meet that farmer’s son. Sam Yasgur, who self-published the book “Max B. Yasgur: The Woodstock Festival’s Famous Farmer,” will have an informal signing and discussion about his book at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Old Main Frame Shop & Gallery, 136 E. College Ave. Yasgur’s book is a biography that follows his father from birth. He’s remembered for leasing his land for the Woodstock festival in Bethel, New York, but most people know little else about the dairy farmer, something Yasgur hoped to change by writing the book. “Until you understand those first 49 years, you wouldn’t under stand why he did what he did,” Yasgur said. At Woodstock, all the elements of a "perfect storm" were in place a lack of adequate transporta tion, scarce parking and little food, with everyone sitting in mud, Yasgur said. “And yet, it was cool." he said. “That’s kind of remarkable, isn’t it?” Kathy Davies, events coordina tor for the Old Main Frame Shop & Gallery, said the event will be informal. Anyone interested in American history, pop culture or good storytelling should attend Yasgur’s signing, she said. “He’s very animated," she said. “You can see in his eyes how excit ed he is about things of that time period.” To e-mail reporter: rams4oo@psu.edu Advertising in Collegian Classifieds: • Classified Word Ads must be PREPAID, unless the advertiser has established credit. • We accept Visa and Master Card. • Words, numbers, telephone numbers and abbreviations count as one word. • Only the most common abbreviations may be used. • Complete Name, Address and Phone Number of advertiser is required.
