The Daily Collegian ‘Moving’ exhibits By Mollie Kehoe COLLEGIAN STAFF WRITER | mkkso39@psj.edu As Art on the Move continues to trav el around Penn State, two featured artists share more than just exhibit space in West. Daniel Kalbach and Cynthia Doliana have both been a part of the bachelor of fine arts program, each with an interest in painting and drawing. Kalbach's exhibit opens today, and Doliana's is scheduled to open tomor row. Kalbach's six- piece exhibit. Works on Paper, is being showcased in the west lobby of Ritenour. He said he drew inspi ration for these particular pieces of work from a 1960 issue of Time magazine, and that although these pieces do not follow a particular theme, most of them contain pictures and images from the magazine. "I did not have a particular theme in mind when I started to create the pieces for this exhibit." Kalbach said. “Each piece of art tells its own story with no boundaries or limitations. Each piece allows you to make your own conclusion about the story that is being told." He also said he draws inspiration for his pieces from history, pop culture and Collegian advertising produces results! Doliana said her paintings of quilts explore the idea of layering in both sleep and the covering of the body. "The quilts are a physical comfort and protection while the mind goes through the different levels of sleep and dreams,” she said. “I hope to intertwine the vulnerability in an exposed foot or hand, and that safe blanketed body in my paintings."
